I lived in Venezuela 15 years, almost my entire life. It saddens me watching this video while knowing that things became much worse since this was documented. I suffered from kidnapping and theft in my own house. My country's economy was even more devastated by communism since Chavez. But then I came to the U.S., where I'm currently studying with the opportunities opening right in front of my eyes. I'm extremely thankful, I can't express how much I am. Many people take things like proper education and jobs for granted, but the feeling of not being able to go to your country without constant fear is ineffable, and it will hunt me forever.

No, he just has the unshakeable belief that being English and middle-class he is going to be okay no-matter-what. He did not uncover any reasons behind the problems and was using the misery and suffering of others for shock tv - and then went home. The repercussions of his visit will be felt by all of those he exposed and he should have stayed there to see the outcome and plead forgiveness to their families.
@calumpage6 жыл бұрын
There was absolutely no need to expose the vulnerable people he did, nor the staged meeting with the 'gangsters'. This is TV at its worst. Criticality and understanding reduced to an ego-ride. He'll be lapping your 'bravery' recommendation. Ask him to pat your head from his London flat. You are exact;y the audience he was spooning this into.

Sirens wail. Pull back to the vaguely ethnic/impoverished/dangerous populace. A brief discussion on 'big' issues and then lots of titillating kidnap, assault, murder footage. He puts on a vest, mentions his cock (??!!!!) and watches some bloke shoot at a car window. Exposes heartbroken people who think he is actually a BBC journalist (not just a public schoolboy using them for his KZbin feed), and he arranges a bunch of 'gangsters' who are happy to get paid 25USD to wave a gun around. And then, in a puff of CK One, he is off to the next MOST DANGEROUS CITY IN WORLD
@calumpage6 жыл бұрын
Let's hope he can speak the language this time, but judging by the lack of journalistic integrity in not learning even the most rudimentary Spanish, it's doubtful. Not at all true. LexisNexis very effectively tracks crime on a worldwide level; even more so throughout the united states. Just as much crime occurs in the wealthiest places in America; and those same exact numbers occur in the poorest communities. The only difference is the levels of crime, and the amount of violent crime. Ask any police officer in any major city; there is more money in the ghetto than there is in places such as Wall Street. But the amount of violent crime in the ghetto is through the roof. Which is why the prison population is the way it is today

@h.a.24106 жыл бұрын
I have been to Caracas 3 times in the 80"s, when it was still a safe and prosperous country. It was incredible. A night in a Hilton suite was 8.00 U.S. You could get a beer ("Polar") in a nice bar for .25 cents U.S., and an entire bottle of very good rum was 1.00 U.S. Dining in very nice places was also very cheap, and very good. A group of friends and I went to one bar that was not very nice. There was a boy, about 10 years old, who kept trying to sell us balut (pickled fertilized chicken chicks still in the egg). We weren't buying any of that, but we all gave the kid some money so he could go home and play the rest of the day. I don't know exactly how much we gave him, but it was probably about half a year's income for his mother. Thanks to the idiots who overthrew the government and installed Hugo Chavez, things got bad fast. The communists ruined the entire country in no time flat. There were 100 times more poor people and 100 times less hope and opportunity under Chavez. Were there poor people there who should have had a better life? Sure there were. But with Chavez, things were much worse. Now that Chavez is dead, even bigger scum-bags are running the place. Now there is no hope or opportunity. This video is a sad commentary on human stupidity and cruelty.

I remember my parents telling me how bad communism and socialism was when they were living in Poland until 1985. Some things I couldn't believe, like how a used car was more expensive than a new one, or how the state controlled much of your life like where you lived, where you went to work/school and especially what you were supposed to say. I remember my mother cursing the USSR for all of their propaganda lies when she moved here to Canada where she found out for herself how much better North American's have it in comparison to Poland and other Eastern Bloc countries. Whenever I hear/see people praise a communist system I know right at that moment that they don't know what they're talking about.

Chavez played it wrong. He and his party spend incoming taxes on improving standards for the poorest percentile nationwide,at the same time he imposed sharply raised taxes for all international businesses operating in Venezuela extracting natural resources . The business went away, and the Oil price /Barrel went down . A double Whammy. The sale of Venezuelan oil on the global market couldent support further public spending, and after the big Corp went away , its all about the diminishing price oil/barrel .

Reminds me of the situation here in germany in the times after WW1. My grandmother R.I.P. ( born 1905 ) once told me when she worked at her fathers bakery these times she was sent to the market every 2 hours, because the money from people buying bread had to be spent so fast because the inflation was so crazy fast that in the morning a bread cost 100 Mio Reichsmark rised to 500 Mio Reichsmark in the evening. Inflation is a risky thing, here in germany it led to the Hitler Regime and into another WW....! If people can´t eat and work is useless because you can´t afford anything with it, the become radical...wether it´s rightwing oder leftwing. They catch every straw they can get held off.

Thank you for your comments. I believe it's very interesting to know the point of view of someone who is that close to the Germany pre WW2. I believe Venezuela already passed the stage Germany was before Hitler. Some analyst believe the inflation rate will close 2018 in 1,000.000%. I believe Maduro and it's government doesn't have the guts to declare a war to neighboring countries (Colombia being a direct ally of USA and Brazil with the biggest army in South America), Guyana and the Caribbean antilles are Venezuela's allies. Venezuela gives them oil and in return it gets votes in the UN.

I don't know if you still have relatives there (I wouldn't wish that to anybody) but we that have still family in Caracas, pray every day and every night so they're safe among that chaos. Things were not easy before Chavez either. It would be very naive to state that Venezuela was Disneyland before Chavez. However, it was very likely that the intention of the guy that stole your mother's necklace was to sell it to buy drugs or alcohol. I'm pretty sure that in his plans weren't kidnapping, killing or extorting you or your family just because your mom was walking around with some jewelry. That's the difference between crime at that time and nowadays. Any of those guys shown in the video are more than willing to kidnap, extort and kill for a few dollars, jewelry or anything they can sell. Hunger, either them or any relative, motivates them and feeding the population is the government's responsability.

@@Guy_de_Loimbard Thank for your answer. What make the rest of the world "wagging a finger" is when USA goes to war against a country and leave a mess that gives refugees the rest of the world has to help. Take Iran who had equal rights for men and women, had a western style culture but was not pro USA, Take Korea that ended up in North and South with millions suffering, take the Irak war that removed a dictator who hated terrorists and replaced him with theorist cells and take the war right now.
