They had a great idea for this where it would be like little scary stories, but then the twist is that it was not scary at all on the end? (Imagine spooky noises in the ceiling then it was just a family of cute raccoons sheltering) I think they discussed it briefly in a previous episode.

Hearing the segment on the Coyotes was actually really helpful for me and a lot of others I think! My parents come from Mexico and were brought up with the idea that coyotes were pests and steal your chickens and lambs, which, now I know, is cuz they were an easy meal and don't know or respect the law lol! They taught me the same thing, but now I know that they're shy and not too confrontational, only if provoked and will defend themselves, which is bad for my little yappie dogs lol, so it also helps knowing how I can prevent any accidents and keep both parties safe!! Thank you World's Wildest crew

I love Vultures and Crested Caracaras! I see Turkey vultures and Black vultures and caracaras all the time! I especially see them around lakes. Black vultures particularly LOVE to bathe! I visited a sanctuary in Florida and they had hundreds of wild black vultures that stuck around for the fresh water and occasional food. They hung out with their pelicans and crocodiles and I watched them splash in the water. I'm studying conservation bio in college and my goal is to work with birds and I'd love to work with vultures. I've seen people say they're some of the most social and silly birds to work with.

About bearded vultures: Yes, they were extinct in the Alps, but are being reintroduced since 1986. Today there are around 250 breeding pairs in the wild (from the information I could find). Also interesting about them: They actually eat bones! To break them apart into smaller pieces, they fly really high up and drop them on rocks. Saw this in a documentary once. It's fascinating!

I do not think wee need to find things ''cute'' to understand that they need to be protected. I don't think mosquitoes are cute, or even ugly. I have personal reasons not to like them, given they personally made my childhood miserable, and the species that cohabitate my hometown in central Africa were the specific ones that hurt humans. Despite all that I understand the importance they have in an ecosystem and the need to respond to them when needed in a reasonable and ecological way.

I’m a 7th generation farmer on the same land, as well as a biologist… most of the stuff said here about vultures is true, or at least mostly true… it’s a big world, a lot going on, and in this case it’s encompassing many species too. Even locally there’s big differences between one animal and another of the same species. Black vultures only just returned to my area, they’d been killed by ranchers and farmers, we only had turkey vultures, many people can’t tell them apart by sight, or the way they act, despite being very different… I’m fine living with them, would never shoot one, but that said, they’ve been observed preying on anything that can’t escape, all you gotta do is move, stand up… whatever to spook them… but it’s not uncommon for livestock to have birth problems which leave either the mother or calf vulnerable and unable to escape. They’re also known to eat the eyes first, and when an animal is alive but injured and vulnerable it’s not hard to blind them, and at that point they’re just a free meal. Honestly coyotes will be basically the same thing, however each pack acts different, some packs have learned to not bother livestock, while others will harass them and rarely threaten them. We had the good luck to get a good pack on our farm, it cured our “problems”. You can’t kill them all, so filling the niche with a hood pack prevents “bad” packs from moving in… I doubt it’ll ever really happen but if we just try to help nature out it would be an infinitely better world than we have, we can’t conquer nature, but we can work together… It takes accurate education and information, but it also requires interest! No one is really interested in learning about nature outside of “how can it be useful to ME!”
I totally understand the importance of mosquitos when they’re in areas they evolved in. That being said, the main reason I dislike mosquitos is because I live in Hawaii. The ecosystems of the Hawaiian islands didn’t evolve with mosquitos, so when they were first introduced on western whaling ships, they brought a bunch of diseases with them that this isolated island chain was not equipped to handle.. one of these diseases is avian maleria. This contributed heavily to the extinction of so many of our endemic bird populations and continues to be a massive issue today, forcing the remaining birds to live in higher elevations where it’s too cold for mosquitos to follow. An estimated 70% of Hawaii’s endemic bird species have gone extinct thus far, that we know of at least. It’s absolutely heartbreaking. Of course not all of those extinctions were caused solely by mosquitoes.. the introduction of cats rats mongoose and countless other unwelcome animals played a massive part as well.

I've never had any real problems with Coyotes, but purely anecdotal, my old golden retriever of about 14 years old was out in Colorado in the morning. My Mom told me to grab my BB gun, becaue about 10 coyote had surrounded the dog with his back to the garage, and were closing in. We opened the door and clapped our hands, we yelled, and they ran away luckily It was probably a case of they saw my dog as weak and old, and we never had any other problems, we've never had to kill any coyotes and enjoy seeing them and hearing them at night

hot tip for protecting livestock from coyotes. guard llamas. That was what my family did on our 80 acre cattle ranch. We had about 10-12 llamas that would rotate nightly "guard duty" and coyotes were never a problem for us ever again. Makes sense seeing as they likely evolved alongside each other within human settlements. Plus llamas are dope asf and spit at anyone they decide they do NOT vibe with lmao

If you have a pet under 10 lbs, absolutely supervise them in your yard. One of my dogs is real little, and there’s a big, beautiful hawk around here. If it starts swooping around, it’s time for us to go inside. Just because you have a fence doesn’t mean your tiny pet is safe. I call my dog a “little rat boy,” and the hawk might be thinking the same thing 😅

Remember! No matter how cute a coyote is, do not feed them! They'll become more aggressive to demand food and stop hunting for themselves. If a coyote is becoming problematic, they'll likely be caught and euthanized or shot. I swear I see so many people in neighborhoods feeding coyotes to post on the internet and then act victimized and shocked when the coyote attacks their or someone else's cats, chickens, and/or dogs.
