World's Most Spectacular Volleyball Players

I recently released a top-10 list of the best volleyball players according to the World of Volley portal. As usual with such videos, they sparked a lot of discussion, and this time was no exception. Despite making it clear that it's impossible to compile an objective top list and there are no criteria that could definitively tell us who the best volleyball player in the world is, you still asked me to create my personal top list.
I'm not a fan of making subjective rankings, but I can't ignore the wishes of my beloved audience either. So, I decided to go for an alternative approach. I'll compile a list of players who have been the most interesting for me to watch lately. For convenience, I'll break it down by position. That means I won't box players into specific ranks or place one above another. I'm just sharing my personal biases, that's all. And you can share your favorites in the comments too. Let's go!

Without hesitation,for me,the most spectacular player nowadays,is Lopez,the cuban,who won the MVP in a recent Clubs Championships.He as Leon,Herrera,Simon,Leal,Juantorena and many others cubans,playing around,are spectacular and specially,very athletic players,following the tradition of those cuban volleyball players from before as Despaigne.

The natural tendency is to valorize what we watch more, and follows,that's why,Almost Everybody thinks in players from the Italian League when concerning accolades and relevance, (more specially in the more media friendly teams),but on my book,my discovery of the cuban player Angel Lopez with the Sada Cruzeiro,was instant admiration, since on my personal perspective,that guy is the epitome of exciting and the most spectacular player right now,(regardless of not playing in Italy, ). Pay attention this next season,to the Japanese League,with the Panthers. He's ready to burst and do,like he did on the Club Championship,arriving as an almost "unknown"outside hitter for many, playing in Brazil,South-America,for the best Brazuca team,(But not known as much in Europe)as their European counterparts. The"cabuloso" Sada Cruzeiro,that Lopez,brought to another championship,obtaining the MVP Award as well,not based on media marketing,but on what he did show on site.

I like ofense ,spikes and strong services,all this attributes,are magnified in the cuban Miguel Lopez,playing with Sada Cruzeiro,until,this year,his last season.

It's a pity,that Lopez doesn't have the same visibility as many good players,but not as spectacular as he is ,in every action of the game.

Loved hearing about your favourite players Nick! Here are some favourites of mine that were not mentioned: Paolo Porro as a 183 tall setter myself I can't help but idolise a setter that competes at the highest level despite being relatively short. It has been amazing seeing Porro grow at Milano. I'm especially impressed with his serve which is a super dangerous top spin. The only setter with more aces in the Italian superlega is Sbertolli. Noumory Keita this guy is the counter opposite of Porro. A bundle of energy on the court with lots of fun celebrations. In terms of technique Keita is still quite raw and when playing as OH his reception is not very stable but his block, serve and attack are amazing to watch. Not only is he tall but he also has a fast arm and can jump. Augustin Loser I mean Perugia snatching this guy from Milano should tell you everything you need to know already. At 1,97m he's one of the shortest starting blockers in the superlega but he has the most kill blocks out of all MBs. The guy's a beast. Really curious how Perugia is gonna use him next season. Honourable mentions: Oleh Plotnytskyi Ferre Reggers Georg Grozer (omg I can't wait for the Olympics)

O cubano voador ("the cuban flyer") Miguel Angel Lopez,the most spectacular players in the world in my opinion and without a doubt,as since he started playing for the Sada Cruzeiro,become rapidly the most spectacular in Brazil league in the last 3-4 years.Not only his spikes are out of this world,but his services,were very well around the fastest (together with Leon). Darlan in comparison,with all his value,only started to make some real noise this last season,but sill,its not Lopez,who i understand doesn't have a lot of exposure,because he doesn't play in Europe.

I mean Darlan is only 21. He was very much at the beginning of his career whereas Lopez is already 27 so mid career now. Not saying Lopez doesn't deserve more attention. In general I think in Italy when they get a "shorter" foreign player they prefer those that are very good defensively like Takahashi.

@@Lucalaurin Lopez was contacted by some Italian League Teams executives as well as some other leagues,VIP around the wolrd ,while he was under contract in Brazil,(in spite of his relative "short high"),but he and his managerial team,decided to go to Japan,since it seems to be a Competition, "ready to blossom" as a "League of a very great future (and some improving new rules and regulations), plus, the better salary conditions and other "clauses"more favorable for the cuban.

@@teseoargos7647 Japanese league is revamping many teams,and looks very promising for the next season,with so many new ,excellent players,lets see,what Osaka's Panasonic,will be able to do,with their staff,Lopez included.

Oh the Outside Hitting I would add Steven Maar. He's been so shifty and good in the Italian playoffs! Such an entertainer. Takahashi also deserves a shout out for his incredible season.

I was lucky enough to watch Italy play against Slovenia at last year’s VNL. Galassi was so good in that game. Hope Simon can be a mentor to him in Piacenza

I liked the positional rankings and I strongly agreed with several of them. I know it is personal taste so I don't think it is correct to give an opinion. Can I ask for a top over for outside attackers who defend better? In men's volleyball, rankings are often defined by the number of attacks or points achieved, so those who defend, such as Ngapeth, Fornal or De Falco, are rarely highlighted. Anyway, great video! I await your opinion on tomorrow's final

I'd love to make a video about defensive actions, but since I don't have access to the technical recordings right now, it's just not feasible to do it properly. As for the Champions League... My playing season is wrapping up, so I can't do a separate video with predictions right now. But I'll try to get a review of the finals out as quickly as I can.

Players like Fornal Defalco Lavia should also stand out. I liked the ranking in the video, but there should be a video for young back-round spikers.

Rok Možic 22 years Slovenijan will be beast in next seasons without injury. He play for Verona. All this are older. 👍🇸🇮🔥

I think we can add brizard or toniutti ( i don’t really know), chinenyeze, patry i think is actually the best opposite, and Ngapeth ( even if he is not a him best level )

No, the Russian volleyball players won't be participating in the Olympics. Only a limited number of athletes from individual sports will be sent from Russia. Thanks for your kind words, all the best to you too!

Leon didn't play much this season, so I didn't choose him based on just a few games. Yeah, I've watched him play in Kazan for many years, so maybe I'm just used to his game and it doesn't impress me anymore. This is just a subjective top list, after all.

This season, Perugia really focused on the quality of their reception. In my view, under these circumstances, Giannelli didn't show his best qualities and definitely didn't play his best, especially in the finals series. The tie-break in the second match of the finals is a whole other story...

N'gapeth, of course, when he's at his best there is so much diversity on his game and it's so fun to watch ! De Falco I also like. And Zatorsky and Dannani are impressive defenders too

N'Gapeth in his prime was marvellous. The level of creativity that he played with and the amount of ball control he had were unrivalled. Unfortunately he has been a shadow of himself these last two years. I have a feeling the Paris Olympics will be the last time we see him shine and after he will continue to decline further.
