We go inside Pure Evil, Mike Washington's 8-second all-motor Coyote 1993 Mustang LX. It is totally insane, spinning 10,000 rpm. See him jamming the gears and listen to him reveal (some) of the secrets.

That's static compression, you're thinking about the compression the way it works in a fix camshaft engine, when you can vary the camshafts independently that allows the LSA to drop the dynamic compression ratio through the TQ spike to a safe level, which is going to be pretty high on Ethanol or race fuel anyway.

Some of the flaws that he dismisses as kinks are the reason it makes so much power and runs so fast. For example if he upgraded springs he'd lose at least 20 horse. If the rear axle didn't tilt under load he'd lose traction farther into his gears instead of between shifts. I haven't seen many cars under 800 horse running under 8 seconds. This is one fine balancing act.
