Eddie is definitely a demonstration of how the 'mental' aspect of skill/technique/willpower is SO big a factor in successful athletes. He's GOAT in his chosen field of athletic effort AND he can show athletic/mental ability in unrelated athletic fields - the mental skills - not to be underestimated.
@threedog27

Definately. Of course he will not be able to climb hard routes but it is really impressive to even climb the routes he did with 1. His body mass and 2. his experience in climbing. He could say f' it countless times before but he did not. Thats the mindset of an athlete.

Eddie: "What I'm worried about is equipment failure" This is a very common and valid concern when beginning to learn the climbing basics. Even after 30+ years of climbing, I was still concerned about equipment failure, especially when on the sharp end on a trad route. Advice to Magnus: Before taking any beginner off the ground on a rope, give them an in-service on the equipment, it's design, strength, purpose, and function. Teach them the proper commands, ie; "belay on?", "climbing", "tension", "slack" "off belay", etc. Have them tie in, climb up a meter or so off the ground, and have them sit back in their harness to demonstrate it's strength/ability to hold/protect them while they are still close to the ground and not 10 meters up. Because Eddie weighs twice as much as you do and is INCREDIBLY top heavy, the potential of him flipping upside down is possible/inevitable. Although a chest harness is cumbersome/ inconvenient, you might consider one for Eddie's MONSTER frame. I'm sure Eddie would appreciate the security it provides.

Not to mention that his musculature gives him limited range of motion compared to someone of Magnus's build. Not only is he carrying such a large amount of weight, but also is overall less manoeuvrable than somone who would commonly be climbing. Both of Magnus's videos with Eddie have left me very impressed. And I agree, I've never been interested in powerlifting or similar sports, but Eddie is always enjoyable to watch and always seems to have great chemistry with the people who he does videos with, he just seems like a really genuine person.

Great video, and I am so impressed by Eddie! The KZbin-age is something else, man. I mean, like 20 years ago, where would Eddie and Magnus even meet? And here we are. All thanks to the internet. Such a good vibe in this video, and so much fun in general seeing all these athletes from various domains having a go on each other's turf.

You two have great camera presence, please more of you guys climbing. It was great to see Eddie overcome the gear fear and see the differences of indoor vs. outdoor. You could tell he had a moment of question but powered through it. If you have climbed outside you know this all to well and I could feel it. .

You can see a glimpse of Eddie Hall the competitor with that "bring it on" at 11:28, he's such a joker that you forget he's got ferocious drive when fired up.

things like this are actually so great for Eddie to do from a health standpoint. Working different muscles in unique ways and using his flexibility while being low impact on his joints. Should make him live a healthier and longer life. Great vid!

All the beeps reminded me my first outdoor climbing, with no previous experience. They were easy low grades safe routes, but I totally understand the feeling of being stuck on a wall with a few expert friends saying "just don't stop moving, believe in the feets, it's gonna be alright" One of the most emotional and scary day I ever passed "having fun" and the reason I'm still climbing today

Magnus, got a great collab idea for ya. You and Geowizard and/or Storror do one of the straight line challenges. Would be a fun one to see.

Oooh, yes! GeoWizard could use some added safety to the climbing parts, seeing how one of the most common reasons he needs to get off the line is going up or down a steep hill or a tall fence. Having Magnus there to coach and belay him would add freedom into route planning. But I have a feeling that Magnus would be too polite to trespass, so less of that needed.

I’ve been watching for years, and this has got to be one of my favorite videos that Magnus has ever made. I’m digging the style of the new editor, the background music was sweet, and Eddie is always a funny and entertaining guest. In a future video, it would be cool to see Juji, Larry Wheels, Brian Shaw, and Eddie compete in some sort of climbing challenge with Magnus. (Or even just Brian and Eddie at the very least. Their competitive banter is always hilarious.)

Why is no one talking about the fact that the gym is built into a church?

There's a bunch of climbing gyms that are renovated churches here in UK. There's one near me in Derybshire _(middle of England)_ which makes sense when you think about it, because they have the ceiling height for it.

Eddie's response to Magnus telling him to "take" at the top was just golden- "Really? f@*k I'd rather climb" I would love to see more of the famous figures you climb with having this first top rope experience haha. Wonderful video, as always, thank you, Magnus, Eddie, and the team! :)
