What buddy told me in 1990 was to tune everything as straight up as you possibly can. But make sure to take cabinet drop into consideration. Anytime you temper strings by flattening or sharpening your out of tune with the other instruments in a group. Not to mention with yourself. But some guitars have so much cabinet dropped they cannot be tuned successfully 440.. You cannot change the. Is scale of an instrument.. The frets are there for a reason.. Equal temperament is the only way to really go.. The biggest problem with steel guitar is Almost everybody is out of tune and almost everybody accepts that as normal. It is not normal and it doesn't have to be that way.. Everybody hates to hear any kind of beating between Intervals.. Bobby Garrett is the one who suggested to buddy to tune that way.. And buddy realized he liked it much better on sessions especially.. But he started embracing the beating.. And it's beautiful

I like the part where he's explaining RKR and the closed captions say "Foreign Music" 11:14 or so in.

I have the Jimmy Day Mod Copedent, because I'm not a contortionist... My left ankle will not bend to the inside. I Lower my E, Raise My E & my E to F# is all on the same leg.

I've definitely thought of trying Day, but at this point I'm in too deep on Emmons!

Can you play steel without pedals. Like Tom morell for instance ?

I prefer the Emmons setup. I bought a couple steels from friends who had the Es split and I tried them for a year. No thanks, the Emmons system is best for me. Besides, who can argue with Buddy? No matter how many great players I seen, Emmons remains my favorite.
