More importantly they are mastering techniques that are ineffective in a street fight. In the early 1990s - when I started Taekwondo - you knew, as a black belt, competing in the US Open, if you made a mistake you were knocked out with a hook kick. Those days are gone - and the masses have moved to BJJ…

@@jkim8551 “mastering techniques that are ineffective to a street fight”. So what do you want them to learn? eye gouging? biting and scratching? No Martial Art can fully prepare someone for a street fight, cuz at the end of the day real fights have no rules and martial arts all compete within a rule set. There are some that definitely prepare you better than others. These high level taekwondo athletes have the basic kicks down. Roundhouse kicks, back kicks, side kicks, front kicks etc. Which can help in any fight and are taught across most striking arts. These other techniques that they learn are specific to the sport aspect of taekwondo. You may think their kicks lack power etc but trust me… They kick harder than it looks. Occasionally you do get those tappy kicks meant purely to score but like I said those are meant for the sport aspect of the martial art There are other aspects of taekwondo like hoosinsul which aim to teach more practical self defense techniques. They are still used by the South Korean military and other armies around Asia.

@@jkim8551no professional cares about preparing for a fantasy fight in the streets. If you think you won't get knocked out by most players today if you make a mistake, you're completely delusional😂😂. Or does your country refer to so-called heavy bags as keyboards? Over in Bolivia, they used six hundred pound ones, but they still never called them keyboards, so now I might be curious as to what a keyboard bag is. This is much lighter than the ones we used with the Royal Order of Korea and their version of Tae-Kwon-do.

Work on none telegraph kicks and punches too. Hard side kicks will drop your opponents guards if they have them. Target your opponents heads, midsections with liver kicks. You have sparr. To the people who are trying to bully tkd and the practitioners there some what right, but they have some flaws in doing so, as a tkd practitioner myself it honestly depends on the coach cause if ur coach is more on the modern tkd side then yes its pretty bad, but if the coach combines old school and new school fighting to their sparring and lessons then something can change

I am would been your top opponent. I had speed like Bill Wallace and better on both legs and great punching power. I missed the Olympic in 1976 because USA did not go. I later won the 1988 Long Beach, CA World Korean Karate Light heavy weight Black Belt championship. I coached other karate instructors' students of other different styles to win karate tournaments, but you are a great fighter and you love it like i did.. Keep training. Oh, yeah, I still have speed in my legs but key is not to telegraph. Train, train with gear at all times. In practice get head gear that covers the nose while in training and use foot gear and gloves with pads in sparring. cardio should be done while sparrings. Running stifles your kicks. Watch it.don't do MMa. do movies. You need your brain for future stuff. CTe is serious. Keep at least one guard up near the temple lobe and tuck chin like Bruce Lee said. Pro Karate would be safer for you.

I don’t see any applicability to the cable punch exercise, in which you are kneeling on the ground. Kicking and punching power comes from the legs and rotation of the body while standing up. Get rid of that exercise!
@MarinhoRFilho
@MarinhoRFilho 3 ай бұрын
This exercise is to increase the power of punches by strengthening the core muscles, responsible for stabilizing the body and for rotation, and the muscles responsible for extending the arms. Punches are not just about the legs, there is a complex biomechanics involved that covers the entire body. That's why it's important to do exercises that isolate certain areas to strengthen specific muscle groups.

whats the point of this comment… Do you want every competitive martial art to look like kickboxing? Every martial art has its own unique identity and history… Learn to respect it. And before you bring up the ‘TKD won’t work in a street fight’ argument… Taekwondo has different aspects to it. Theres the sport aspect which is known ti many and the practical self defence aspect called hoosinsul which is still used in the Korean and many other Asian militaries. Also no martial art can fully prepare you for a street fight, unless you find one that allows biting, scratching, eye gouging, groin kicks etc. There are definitely some that better prepare you than others but never fully.

If you are referring to sport tkd/ITF/WTF/ATA, etc., they have no idea how to punch these days. Even worse, they cannot defend against double leg takewdowns at all. A boxer learned in seconds how punches alone are dangerously effective against people faster than Khabib using takedowns when done properly, no matter how they set it up and regardess of the height involved. I use that for the students that take boxing as a reminder that you don't need grappling or kicks to be dangerous; punches alone kill when done properly, bare knuckled like we do all the time or not.

Bad enough that the UFC is a game, but this modern Olympics can't even be called foot-tag anymore because that would be giving it too much credit. Why are the vietnam veterans in their seventies far faster and much mroe dangerous than the showbiz fighters? Not even george foreman could hit nearly as hard or as fast as memebrs of the special forces from that time, and they know how to do much more than punch. A non-special forces member (U.S. Army from the Vietnam Conflict) immediately reached for my jugular in an attempt to rip it out, and had a counter to my counter; thailand muay thai is people toying around in a game compared to that alone, but the man who trained with the ROK Army in tae-kwon-do instead went for trying to immediately break my neck in two and also had a counter to my counter, though he was far faster and his knuckles had thick calluses on all of them. They were all defeated, but ROK soldiers in the White Horse and Tiger divisions were the only ones that came remotely close to what we do, and still nowehere near for One reason they lacked: Obedience to the LORD God of Israel.
