The way that all of Minnesota got filled in and the music just completely stopping at 3:05 made me genuinely uncomfortable. Like the kind of uncomfortableness that makes your chest subtly but noticeably tighten, your arms inch slightly closer to your torso, and a rock form in the pit of your stomach. It's as if you're being put on the cusp of a fight-or-flight response without actually triggering it. So simple, yet so thoroughly, frighteningly effective. I think I'm in love with this series.
@oxymoron022 жыл бұрын
I thought the opposite. For me, the spookiest analog horrors are the ones setup like this (infographic, muzak-style music playing in the background) where the setup DOESN@T change for the weird part. It's far more scary to watch something like this and think, "And this is NORMAL in that reality". Remember that we're watching a presentation tape effectively from another version of Earth-- why would the editing suddenly cut out the music and dramatically shift style if woodcrawlers are considered an animal there? Not a monster, an animal.

My old Great-Gramps used to raise Woodcrawlers back in the Depression. He told me they taste pretty good, if a bit gamey, and if you raise them right, they're far more docile. Of course, now we know we shouldn't keep these beautiful creatures as pets or livestock, but I can't really blame him. Different times and all, plus he had been riding the rails for years at that point. RIP Great-Gramps, hardly knew you.

I saw this comment & was trying to find a reddit comment from the creator's account for you but I can't find it now in the GHE subreddit but: Remy confirmed that the woodcrawler legs are 100% digital assets, he tried to make them look nicer but due to his inexperience(at the time, the digital assets for this series have VASTLY improved & they're great) the legs came out looking like cardboard. Before I found this out I also thought they were cardboard cutouts & thought it was a great, simple practical effect which scared the pants off me the first time I watched this!

I had a dream about woodcrawlers being added as a Minecraft mod(I've been playing a lot of Minecraft lately)and shit got real weird real fast. The mods themselves were invisible, but only followed the player when they weren't looking. You'd hear a second set of footprints behind you and if you stood in one place for too long, you'd take damage. They couldn't go in houses though. Instead of abandoned towns you'd find abandoned camps. Here they wouldn't pursue you during the day, but at night they'd become aggressive. They'd learn how to open doors and you'd had to close them before they got in. Blocking the door with something would not help you as they'd glitch through it, taking damage. They have a lot of health and are still invisible. There is a device that you can use to detect when one is near, but the only way to get it is finding one in the abandoned camps. Hitting one would cause blood to fly and they drop this blood-filled organ upon death which you could use in potions. The scariest thing is they can possess other nearby mods and attack...even pets.

My theory, based on what was shown, is that the woodcrawlers are some sort of creatures or monsters who use large families to assume their identities and also have enough family members to bring more woodcrawlers into society. This allows a private place where they could learn to behave human to properly assimilate into society as the person whose identities they assumed, meaning learning to move your mouth and body normally (which we saw the kid and the older guy doing), as well as learning to walk like a human. I think the reason we saw the woman gliding instead of walking is because she is still learning to not move like a woodcrawler. I think a slide alludes to the idea that woodcrawlers dont make any noise traversing most terrains. And we saw what can be safely assumed is at least the front two legs of a woodcrawler in the "Nature's Mockery" bit. Maybe momma Woodcrawler was recently changed, but not the last out of the family, so she gained mobility but doesn't know how to walk like an awkward, clumsy human since woodcrawlers are creatures of such stealth and precision that they almost carry over that innate natural ability into their human form. And also, no one has mentioned the end where the guy starts getting chased by the dude in the butcher's apron. Any thoughts on that, bc I have some theories.
