These buildings look amazing at night. I remember being there back in the summer of ‘92 when I was 10 years old. I went inside the south tower to see the observation deck, and that evening I was in the north tower for dinner in windows on the world. The experience was absolutely amazing and unforgettable.

They weren’t rebuilt because of the design, it a 60’s design. And the new building has concrete and steel, the twin towers were just made out of steel, and if they rebuilt them, it would look very old and people would end up questioning why did they use a 60’s design in the 21st century.

Regan MacBannon Mason that is awesome! I visited them in 1993 as a kid and remember that they were massive in person yet sort of friendly. The observation deck was so high everything looked like toys. After 9/11 I had nightmares about being trapped in the tower, but I wanted them to be rebuilt. I’m sad this didn’t happen, maybe somewhere in New York someone will rebuild them someday, but I think the best tribute would have been to rebuild them it might have been a little traumatic for some but I think in time it would be very healing.
@tennisguyky5 жыл бұрын
Regan MacBannon Mason yeah they left a lasting impression on me! I didn’t realize how many people actually worked in them until years later. We visited in July of 93. I always wanted to go back again one day. It’s the oddest thing, but in the summer of 2001, I remember randomly thinking about the twin towers again and even checked out a book about them from the library. I had this vague feeling of unease, and when school started back in September, it had been a beautiful summer, and I remember looking at the book of pictures of the towers and comparing the ones we took on our visit. But I had this strange feeling that something was wrong, I couldn’t place it it was just a vague unnerving feeling. On 9/11 I was home from college that day and was watching the Today Show. Around 8 am I stepped out on my parents’ porch and looked up at the sky it was a beautiful blue, even in Ky where I live, and thought what a beautiful morning. I stepped back inside to watch the Today Show and suddenly they cut in with the news and I watched the entire horrific thing on tv. When the second plane hit, I panicked. I called my aunt and my mom and didn’t know what was happening. I was horrified and later saw people jumping out of the north tower. I was very traumatized and I felt personally violated by what happened. Maybe because I felt the towers were a small part of me or some connection to them, but I cried, and was so upset that I shut down emotionally for years and could not express my emotions anymore. The tragedy was overwhelming. To this day I can talk about it but it’s still raw when I see the images again. And I’m still very angry about it. I don’t feel enough was done. In a strange way I feel if the towers had been rebuilt it would have healed a lot of wounds because to see them again, to touch them or to just feel their presence like I did as a kid would be really therapeutic at least for me. I like to remember them the way they were not on that day

Along with the 110-floor Twin Towers, numerous other buildings at the World Trade Center site were destroyed or badly damaged, including WTC buildings 3 through 7 and St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.The North Tower, South Tower, the Marriott Hotel and 7 WTC were destroyed. The U.S. Customs House (6 World Trade Center), 4 World Trade Center, 5 World Trade Center, and both pedestrian bridges connecting buildings were severely damaged. The Deutsche Bank Building (still popularly referred to as the Bankers Trust Building) on 130 Liberty Street was partially damaged and demolished some years later, starting in 2007.The two buildings of the World Financial Center also suffered damage.The last fires at the World Trade Center site were extinguished on December 20, exactly 100 days after the attacks.

Absolutely should have been rebuilt in an ideal world but if you want the real reason why they weren’t just remember it always always comes down to money and return on invested capital. At the time of 9/11 business were leaving lower manhattan and the WTC was never 100% full as it stood. It wasn’t a sensible financial prospect to spend billions rebuilding two absolutely massive structures with all that office space when they were never going to fill them again, solely through the general business trend away from downtown but then couple that with the fact that no business would want office space in an exact replica of two buildings that had already been attacked twice and would inevitably carry on being a massive target for terrorism. The Twin Towers being rebuilt but sitting largely empty would have been a great visual spectacle but haunting as hell and was never going to provide a return on investment.

If these were rebuilt today they would be the pride of America for generations to come. Instead today we take our loss in quite solidarity (which is very un-American if you ask me)

What interests me as a Brit is that we can categorically say "floors 91-97 were the impact zone in the south tower" etc but to me it is a continuous grey pattern. Is there small detail i overlook which gives away which floors are positioned where?

i mean, you can count them manually. but most people got their sources from, you know, the people inside the towers.

Before there was MetroTech cause then there would have been the Chase building and the trapezoid fitted roof building (1 MetroTech Center) which had the spiky blue lights building

You would think that with all the effort put into getting shots of the towers from that perspective, they would have used some high quality equipment to capture the moment. Before anyone replies, there were excellent cameras available, even back then.

Just subscribed to your channel. Those twin towers were absolutely beautiful! Wish I could have seen them in person. After 9/11 I had made 2 sets of twin towers out of plastic canvas
