My wife's grandfather remembers a very famous fellow soldier during the war, while both were stationed at an air base in England.

In 1961, both my grandparents died within a month & my family sold their house to a man with the last name of Hill! He told us that he trained with Clark Gable in aerial gunnery school, presumably before his promotion to Second Lieutenant & said that Gable was a "great guy" who wanted everyone to treat him equally! Don't forget Gable was 42 years old when he joined the military, so at that age, could have sat out WWII, like many other movie stars did, but chose to do his part! R.I.P. Clark!

That's a terrific perspective, Ron. I'm so glad you shared that. Part of me wishes that everyone had to serve in the military. We'd probably have a lot more cohesion as a nation.

My father served at Polebrooke Airfield from '43 to 45. He said Clark Gable seemed to be a decent guy.
