My father was part of the Ploesti Air raid of 8/1/43. He was Engineer Top Turret Gunner on B-24 "Wing And A Prayer". This video is amazing & makes me very proud. His plane & crew did survive the mission

Cronkite was THE newscaster of my youth and teens back in the 1950s and '60s. A real news caster; a true patriot.

RV Jones quotes Albert Speer as follows: "Even 5000 long-range rockets, that is more than 5 months' production, would have delivered only 3,750 tons of explosives; (whereas) a single attack by the combined British and American air forces delivered a good 8000 tons."

Does anyone know if the CBS WWII series "Air Power" is anywhere available in its entirety? The 1983 Cronkite narrations appear to draw a lot of material from this weekly hourly show which chronicled, mission by mission, the B-17 sorties over Eastern Europe and Germany itself.

I have these on DVD. I've watched them more than any movie ever probably, documentary orotherwise. they are the most played, worn-out and scratced DVD's I've ever owned. But they were super cheaply made dvd's from the giant bargain bins anyway. But something about these I always rewatched over and over, despite the hundreds of other first and second world war documentaries i owned and could've watched ( before you could watch almost every documentary ever for free on youtube), I still always came back to these.10/10

Hands down, Cronkite was the best war correspondent/reporter in the history of the job.

Actually, much of the Hamburg part comes from the classic British film from 1941, "Target for Tonight" featuring actors and planes actually used. The pilot, Charles Pickard, was an RAF pilot actually in the Amiens raid and was killed in that raid, which was the inspiration for "Mosquito Squadron."

Amazing footage! Also I never saw the German air command table before. I'm surprised they didn't use delayed action bombs on their bombings? Obviously would be a lot easier to see the target. Also I don't know when they started using the red smoke marking bombs on the perimeters of the target area?
