I'm obsessed with stormtroops,& have been all my life! I'm 63 now. This is FABULOUS. All the typical storm weapons shown....mainly. German,AustroHungarian,Italian,Russian,Bulgarian,Turkish,.....I don't care! As a Brit we had none. We had problems with elites at the time!? Doctrinal problems,so we just used Canucks,Aussies,& Kiwis......errrrr-lol??? Evidence Bulgars used storm units in Balkan wars,in 1912-3? Seems many people do not understand difference between offensive & defensive grenades? Or even know there is a difference?? Mills bombs are defensive hand grenades & need to be used from cover or you eat your own fragments!!! BRILLIANT BRILLIANT VIDEO thanx m8

Very glad you enjoyed watching! Also yes, many people are completely unaware that there are such things as an offensive and defensive grenade. The HE grenades commonly employed by the Stoßtruppen were meant more to concuss and disable rather than to outright kill. When one brings thought to the idea of assaulting a static position with a fragmentation grenade, the glaring problem can be seen.

Thats not entirely true sir, British may didn't have their own assault units but Canadian forces often were a spearhead of assault batallions and they were also great at conducting trench raids. Serving under the British command

Think that you've misunderstood my point? In NO WAY were differences between Commonwealth units training & British units training comparable to differences ,in training, between regular & storm troops,in the German,A-H,Italian,&c units! As stated GHQ had a problem with elite units units until well into WW2. Look at resistance at HQ to forming SAS,for example? Put your best men and training into elite units means that casualties in those units can be more damaging then casualties in regular trained units!? As ,in fact, happened to German storm units in 1918. Canadians,Australian,NZ units were used as storm units-yes- but they were not trained hugely differently from British units. So not really sure what point you are trying to make here. GHQ also believed that Scottish & Irish units should be used in attacks but should be replaced by English and Welsh units because they were more "solid" in defence!? These are national differences NOT training differences?? Hope I've made my point clear here my friend. Anywho......cheers brother

@@bwda666 ah, now I do understand, I am fairly certain if Douglas Haig wasn't so delusional about cavalry making a breakthrough in heavily fortified position untill 1918 there would develop some kind of british shock troops, but since he didn't learn from his mistakes and enemy tactics till 1918 there was no specificaly trained shocktroops He deserves to be remembered as bad general but not a terrible one, he deeply cared for his men but in many scenarious he was so certain to make a breakthrough against heavily armed german trenches he dragged the offensives for too long and it was both a slaughter by gun and nature But in 1918 he finally learned from his mistakes and also listened to his subordinates which he was known for not doing. If you did or have not watched yet there's a channel called The great war in which they cover many aspects of the war, every year week by week and some special events have their own episodes like for example german defensive tactics and offensive tactics

@@Kriegserinnerungen For realistic training there should be someone throwing it back... WW2 Harris: > "The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everybody else and nobody was going to bomb them"

@@chevinbarghest8453 The Sturmtruppen of WW1 were taught directly to time their throws so that their grenades go off relatively as soon as they go into the enemy trench or position, which is why in that scene they are training throwing the grenades at a high arch so that they come down at a steep angle. They practice more practical combat procedures and formations later on in the video.

Here you go with the Keyboard warriors again who know shit about war, Stick Grenades are for offensive Operations they have bigger distance then round ones it was the perfect grenade for stormtroopers, during ww2 and the cold war stick grenades were still made that way especially anti tank ones, why becouse again you can throw them further then round ones which are defensive grenades. @@chevinbarghest8453

Its cool, in World War 2, countries extensive used films to train their troops, as filming and cameras were cheap and VERY common. But in World War 1, at the beginning, they film and cameras were more luxury and less of a common thing, but by the end of the war, cameras were very much more common, and this is a great one of the first examples of training films, which in future wars would play a massive part in training troops.

@jasonnicholasschwarz7788 Not reithosen but Berghosen. These just had knee patches. There were ones with the Lederbesatz in the rear but it wasn't like the Reithosen pattern. These knee patches became very standard among mountain troops and assault troops
