I recommend the “Slow Burn” series by Bobby Adair it is really different zombie apocalypse. The zombies are more like infected people than reanimated dead. There are differences between the infected so some retain humanity whilst others don’t.

Hey Mike, just found your channel. Really interesting and highly enjoyable to listen to your review of one of my favorite books of all time in a clear, concise format. I appreciate that you mentioned the author's nuanced commentary and critique of governments and society which really makes it distinct from other fringe horror books. I would recommend listening to the audiobook narration on audible, it has an all-star cast and made me enjoy the book even more. Great book review!

10:30 You're wrong on so many things here. It was not a little girl and her family living in a church. It was a mother and daughter waiting in church for the husband/father to return. He never did. It wasn't only them. There were also many members of the congregation there as well. Yes, the mother was trying to mercy kill her daughter by strangulation because the Zombies had gotten into the church, but was shot dead by another member who saved the girl Sharon by picking her up and carrying her into the parking lot. "RUN SHARON! DONT STOP! JUST RUN! RUN! RUN! RUN!" The Zombies pulled the woman away from Sharon and ate her.

Also speaking of the Zombie Survival Guide Its mentioned in the Book that that Book is actually an inuniverse book written by Max Brooks, and its implied that the UN Agent is that Max Brooks as well, when someone shits all over the Guide inuniverse for being to American Centric

I think the great horror that comes with slow moving zombies is that they've beaten humans at their own game. Persistance hunting is what helped drive our species to the top while we where still on the plains. We just followed our prey until it gave out from exaustion. And now, something else, wearing our own faces, is doing the exact same to us.

After watching a few seasons of The Walking Dead and reading World War Z, I conclude that the governments of World War Z handled the problem pretty well compared to twd. It's kind of crazy tbh.

Absolutely nothing to back this up, but I always considered that the virus in TWD was a bio weapon that went out of control. Large population (or populationS) infected at once, with a people that canonically has no cutural knowledge about zombies (besides the frindge that knows the concept of the og Voodo zombies). And the fact that EVERYONE is infected, not just those directly bitten by a z. Hospitals musta been CRAZY, even beyond what we saw in the show.

If you enjoy this book, a non-fiction suggestion is Studs Terkel's books. 'Hard Times' is various personal accounts of folks who lived through the great depression, 'The Good War' is the same about experiences during WW2.

The one point that was incorrect was the church portion. Sharon's mother was strangling her, and then she was shot by the mother of Sharon's friend who died. She then ran her out of the church and told her to run.

Highly recommend reading Surviving the evacuation by Frank Tayell. lt is a series of books that begins a bit monotonously but develops interesting characters and events beyond just the zombie and nuclear war apocalypse. While not in the same league as wwz it explores many facets of life, both the monsterously evil to redemption and love. l enjoyed it but, of course, it is entirely subjective.

10:29 Spoiler section Actually, its the mother of the girl's deceased friend that shoots the girl's mother to save the girl. The girl describes being choked, hearing a big bang, and her face being suddenly filled with something warm and wet (blood). The friend's mother then picks the girl up and throws her over the encroaching hoard, begging her to just keep running. A notable example of Chekov's gun, as it was described that the preacher's wife was carrying a shotgun(?) when they first entered the church. As for book recomendations, I personally liked "Day By Day Armagendon" (journal style from the pov of a soilder that's recently returned home, then armagedon begings) and "The Girl With All the Gifts" (told from the perspective of a young girl in a facility in Britian(?), fungus based zombies)

WWZ is one of those books that gave me the creeps. Fear, dread; the creeps. An excellent book. The movie version was bad. There were some parts of the movie that were trying to be good, but overall, it sucked. Train to Busan is a much better movie than WWZ, even though reading captions is distracting. I haven't seen an English overdub for it yet.

I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE when they make a movie that shits all over the source material just because they wanted a specific name as the title. Max Brooks book was amazing. I've listened to the audiobook 3 times. All they had to do was make something unique and different as per how the was the book was written. Instead, they just simply made another generic Zombie not unlike a 1000 other generic Zombie movies.
