Battle of Yonkers is my go to when people tell me the military would absolutely 100% crush any chance of a zombie apocalypse, I guess it still all depends on how exactly the undead spread, incubation period etc etc, but I love that chapter, it does a good job of explaining that not everyone is John Wick, making perfect headsets with every shot, and how quickly munitions would run out in a battle against hundreds of thousands of undead, if not millions.

The book really shook me, The crazy thing is World War Z isn't about zombies at all. It's about Humanity. And it's a horrifying reflection about who we really are. But also a reflection on what makes civilization work. The Great Panic for example, Substitute Zombies for Covid and the attitudes of the American's is pretty much exactly what happened IRL. I disagree wholeheartedly that "It's not a great book" and there are no lessons to be learned by it. If that's your honest conclusion you've completely missed the whole point of the book. See Lecture of Opportunity | Max Brooks's lecture at the US Naval War college.

The term you were looking for was NEET lol I read World War Z many years ago after I graduated high school(it was 2007, probably when zombie culture was at its peak lmao) and I gotta say, it's still my favorite book I've ever read. Even now, all these years later, I still can picture some of the scenes the book described; the zombie mindlessly digging in the desert for days because it was after a small animal, the woman pilot who swears that she heard another person on her radio guiding her out of the forest. I haven't had a story stick with me like that, let alone a book. You're right though, it hasn't greatly impacted my life or anything like that. It's just a great fucking story. AND THE PEOPLE WHO THOUGHT THE MOVIE WAS A GOOD IDEA SHOULD BE SHOT.

Yeah the movie was not a good depiction at all. They should have done a TV series of one hour episodes showing different stories play out

Yeah, I still cannot believe they were handed this perfect for streaming episodic story book and went "lets make generic zombie movie #42069". What a damn shame and waste of potential

**SPOILERS AHEAD** i would argue that it has changed my life forever! some of these stories i will forever think about. blind japanese man in the wilderness? daughter who watches her parents fight about whether or not to eat human flesh? phalanx being viewed as a billionaire who profited off a lie? this book is definitely more than what it appears on the surface!

My favourite part of WWZ is toward the end when they ramble about fictional diving suits for wayyyy longer than anyone asked them to.

I felt the same as you. My wife asked how it was and I said it was terrible but I couldn't put it down. Lol it felt like the book version of candyfloss. I also thought the same as you about a TV show. Jus do a Netflix series with an episode on the best stories. Finally as a veteran some of the submarine and military details were scarily accurate, the guy had done serious research
