Brooks' novel is a chilling accurate representation of how our world would respond to the outbreak; he did his homework on our cultures, religions, economy and politics then unleashed the undead. Of course, Hollywood thought we just wanted zombies. Its about everything else that made the book compelling.

The zombies were PG-13 watered down generic runners ripped off from 28 Days and Dawn of the Dead, instead of the Romero-style zombies mixed with Return of the Living Dead, where they rose from the ground, the ocean, and consumed in slow to moderate swarms. None of the chilling accounts in the book shone, but instead, we got slapped with cartoonish CGI. They might have cherry-picked references and easter eggs but why even bother. World War Z didn’t need a big star. Tell the story just like in the book: by showing the short story experiences of various people that when viewed as a whole it would tell the full story. It would be even better if it used relatively unknown actors. This movie was WWZ in name only. When I first read the book, I was surprised to find out Max was Mel’s son. They ruined this movie just like they did with I Am Legend. Read the book to understand the impact (and irony) of the title.

It became a Pitt vanity project when he got involved, and it is very apparent when you watch it. I don't blame all of the problems of this sh&tshow on Pitt, but if you watch the film, it is very true that it is not character-driven - more let's see Pitt save the world. This isn't Fast and the Furious. He's not the Rock. We can forgive those silly things in a F&F but not in this kind of film. Bleh!

This was great film, but it’s biggest problem is being called World War Z. Outside of Jurgen Warnbraun’s backstory, there is literally nothing of the book in the movie.

The brilliant part about the zombies in the book was their slow relentlessness. When winter came they froze solid and were stuck until spring came and they thawed up to just continue. Or if they fell into the sea they crawled on the seabed until they reached shore. Who in their right mind reads this and decides that they should make a movie where the defining characteristic of the zombies is their amazing speed?

I HATE that part! Where did that truck come from?? It's absolutely silent as it plows through 4 lanes of gridlocked traffic, then comes roaring up next to Brad Pitt's car. Worst example of a lack of object permanence in film. And I will never let it go.

to be fair, they are zombie movies. I was kind of expecting that cheap, overblown, blockbuster feel before heading in. So it's not really that the movies failed to be thought provoking like the books. It's just that 'zombie movies' are never thought provoking. But you know, they could have at least used different names.

When I saw this movie, I wasn't expecting citizen Kane, I think it's a lot better than any of the super hero trash that has been in cinemas over the last 8 years. It's a good action movie for me. The pace is kept up throughout and Pitt plays his part.... He's miscast though, as he is too good looking and cool. It's just a pretty good action zombie movie.... Incidentally, I did pick up the book in a book store and sat and read a few pages..... Its hardly a great work of fiction.

As someone who works in production, I'm interested to know where they got the information about the receipts, because the way they're reporting it doesn't make sense. Hypothetically, if I spent $1000 on extras, but lost all the payment receipts, I wouldn't magically be over budget. That money was already in the budget for the extras. Accounting is going to chew me out and I might have to go to extreme measures to get documentation of where that money went, but I wouldn't be over budget 🤔
