This World WEAvers event is a unique workshop on the practice of Vermiculture (worm-keeping) and composting. Led by Kendall Dunnigan, Director of Resilient Communities at the Occidental Arts & Ecology Center in Northern California, the workshop focuses on how Vermiculture is a low-maintenance and highly effective way to Combat Climate Change from within your home. Kendall demonstrates how to turn kitchen waste into black gold - better than any store-bought fertilizer for your garden. By watching this video, you will learn to create a worm bin that can be used inside any apartment or home to keep kitchen waste out of landfills and help our gardens to thrive.
WEA invites you to learn, take action and create impact at home and in your community. Here are some ideas (be sure to send us photos, writing and artwork about your action!):
Share pictures or videos of you creating a worm bin with your family and start composting in your backyard
Reduce your carbon emissions by reducing food waste. Further reduce emissions by composting instead of sending food scraps to the landfill. Share pictures of your methods
Offer 2-5 hours of research & writing support for WEA’s work around reducing carbon emissions. For example, research and write a piece on food waste and landfills, or research how supermarkets can reduce food waste and create food security
Conduct virtual educational campaigns in your neighborhood/community about composting and share the knowledge you learn through this event
