In like almost all oses. It shutdown the computer. and nothing else happens In old oses ( like windows 95) it shows “its now safe to shutdown the computer” screen and it’s stuck in that screen until the user turn off the computer (because ACPI didn’t exist back then) you can still enable this in windows 11 In windows 1 to 3.1. It shutdown and then goes to ms dos (because windows used to be on dos)

Since Windows 10 21H2 shutting down from the start menu no longer shuts it down completely, which is why I prefer using another method to shut the computer down like Alt+F4 on desktop.
