My dad was in Cuba to work when suddenly died. The rest of us we were back in Italy, I Will never forget that phone call telling us the sad new, never seen my dad again. Many years passed, this song and this album make me cry all the times because I Will Always feel this special connection with this island, like my Dad Is still there enjoying the music, the lovely Friends, the mojitos... I like to think like that. Love to Cuba.

As a young boy from England on holiday in France in the year 2000, aged around 7 or 8, my parents thought they'd lost me in a music store. They of course got worried, apparently searching for 15 minutes thinking I had ran away. Well, they found me hidden away at the very back of the store, with a pair of huge headphones on, listening to this Album 😂 Needless to say they were relieved, and given my new found fascination with this music they bought me the album. I have to say I'm pretty proud of younger me, for having such good taste. As a 30 year old this music never fails to bring a smile to my face. Viva Cuba 🫶🏻

@@skramdurosnob9794As a Cuban i can tell you that the feeling you get out of cuba you will not replicate anywhere else. If you arrive by plane there is nothing more beautiful. You first start seeing the Clear crystal water of cuba from above. Then you start seeing green pasture through the white fog. The Palm trees looking like giants compared to everything else around it. Then it is when that feeling starts to hit. You start feeling the sense of peace and finally at home. When you land you feel a big shake from the plane. When you get out of the plane you feel the humidity and the heat from the island hit you all at once but at the same time there is a when you inhale you smell wet dirt and freshly wet vegetation. Once you pass through the hell on earth that is Cuban Customs. You Leave the airport. You look up and see the sky. Nothing more beautiful the sky in cuba. Unlike the United States and any other nation that i have experience even in the Caribbean the sky in cuba is very close. In the United States the Sky seems high and the Clouds as well but not in Cuba. Cuba is the most beautiful country there's is in the world, but beauty has a curse. Just like a Plantation through that beauty there is a lot of pain and resentment. Family's split for ideological reasons. Hatred on Both sides because of what they have become.

My wife and I had our honeymoon in 2018 in cuba. A travel along from the east to the west along with other people from germany. It was such a nice trip and i loved the music, the spirit of the people. They have so less goods, but they give so much. I remember a couple we met in Havanna after midnight. They invited us to celebrate our wedding at their home with cigars, rum and Music and we sat there until the sun rises. They spoke excellent german because they both studied in the former GDR and worked in Rostock. Something similar only happend in greece and never again! I hope we visit that beautiful island again in our lifetime!

My wonderful, sweet SIL is cuban and actualy from Mayari! He and my daughter left the Dominican Republic, where they met, in summer 2020 during the height of the pandemic and put down roots in Berlin. The wedding was delayed due to legal hickups. The ceremony took place 10 days ago. But even before I met him for the first time some 7 or 8 years ago, I already loved this music and especially this very song!

Con mucho mucho pero muchísimo amor de un pobre hermano Mexicano el que aquí te escribe...

Ry Cooder an english musician was responsible for this album, he planned to record an album with two african musicians in Cuba, but for some reason they weren't able to get their visa and arrive in Cuba, so Ry Cooder decided to gather cuban musicians from the 60s and 70s, and since Cuba was "frozen in time" per say, the recording studio was untouched and the recording material was all available there, so they recorded this incredible album. Of course Ry Cooder thought about orchestrating the album, but the Compay, Rubén, Ochoa and the others are incredible musicians as well, just incredible how this ended making one of the best albums of all time.
