This is the best lesson on a percussion solo on youtube! Really love the musical thing on your ideas, not just chops and licks... Love the fact that you put musicallity in the first place

I find ABAC is a great structure to create musicality, especially with groove patterns. For example: A lrll rlrr B lrrl rllr A lrll rlrr C lrlr llrr A works as a repeating theme. B works as a comma and C works as a period of the sentence.

So glad I found your videos! You are a great teacher, been watching many of your djembe videos and absolutely love your teaching style. You make it achievable and enjoyable. ☺️ I'm a total beginner both to djembe and music in general so really appreciate all your explanations. Just wanted to say thank you! ☺️🙏

Some good tips there as I still struggle with soloing at times especially when I'm jamming and already winging it a bit on the basic rhythm! I notice you're playing a tycoon drum: it it a requinto?

Thanks for a really helpful lesson - very pragmatic and accessible. I feel so much better informed about a subject I knew nothing about. It brought a question to mind. At 10:57 as you prepare to offer an example of tension and release, you note that it’s unplanned - and make the offhand observation that solos aren’t supposed to be planned. Is that always the case in your experience, or was that more a reference to improvisation? My impression is that many / most solos in commercial recordings and live performance are well planned out. Clearly there’s a place for both spontaneity and preparation. Wondered if you have more to offer on this. Thanks again for the excellent lesson. ☮️🙏🎶

Wish there's a way to just give you some money as we can, instead of a monthly charge?

Talking of the musicality and rhythmic I discovered an interesting concept regarding a four16-note group. The downbeat and upbeat support the pulse and the offbeats have more musical interpretations that are to be anchored to the main beats in order to avoid getting off the basic rhythm. 🎼🎵🎶🪘🙌
