Singapore cannot just use the hydroponics forever. It takes creativity and innovation to upgrade the current settings of hydroponics. The setup is expensive and does not reduce the price of the perishable foods. The water-based nutrients is not cheap. Scientists must find the local replacement for water-based nutrients.

Priority fruits: Watermelon, Papaya, Pumpkin 3. Fish Farm: Yellow striped Fish 4. Spice: Chilli, in S.G to have Factory to Make Belacan 5. Tomato: For the simplest easy "Tomato Rice" if just wishing something special and having the something in "nothing kind of food"? 6. Anchovies 7. That is all a very positive display of what is actually still in lab scale. The production is less than 1000 kg a year. Nevertheless, Singapore's efforts to explore new ways to grow food are the right path.

singapore will never attain food security. self sufficiency for any type of food can only reach between 5 to 30%. only intensive farming like the dutch model in a few food categories might work to bring it higher. but the government way of valuing land use will never allow that to happen

We have to try. If it is not successful, then tweak the system. But at least we tried. Who knows, within 10 years from now, new innovation may come along and improve the food yield. Just like Newater. Who knew we can use seawater and turn it into usable product. We have to try.

@@prumchhangsreng979 Please inform your countrymen in Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. They can impose 10x the current market price of the fragrant rice to Singapore. All major exporters of shallots, sugar, flour, eggs, butter, algricultural byproducts from sunflower, corn flour, wheat, barley and grains can impose 10x the market price for Singapore. Singaporeans are proud to say that they are affluent enough to import them at their whims.
