This is the Wamba pride, a group of nineteen lions that reside in eastern Zambia, more precisely in the lands of Luangwa. Considered the strongest group in the area, this family was made up of three dominant males known as the Rock coalition, they were: Mohla, PridePride and Vick. The kings had 9 exceptional queens, 5 teenage cubs, and two newborn cubs, Otto the male and Maya, the small female.
The large family seemed to be extra protection for these puppies, but the truth is that Otto and Maya liked to venture into the savannah in secret. Place where leopards waited for the perfect moment to disappear with one of the cubs of their greatest enemies.
On an October morning, the temperatures in the savannah were scorching, and Otto and Maya took advantage of the fact that their entire family was sleeping in the shade of a tree to explore alone the enormous environment in front of them.
Mohla, one of the leaders of the gang, realized that two important members of his family were missing and went looking for his youngest children. It didn't take long for Mohla to spot a leopard stalking her children.
Mohla knew that if the leopard saw him, he would be faster and run away to a tall tree. If it escaped, the leopard could try to catch Otto and Maya again, so the lion walked slowly, right behind the leopard. When the feline noticed Mohla's presence, it was already too late. The lion killed him quickly and assertively.
Otto and Maya were safe, at least this time.
For such a large family of predators, not everyone cares about the young…
Mohla, PridePride and Vick went on a trip, looking for more lionesses to add to their huge group. Apparently the cubs would be safe with their mothers and aunts, born and imposing hunters. But the truth is that they didn't care much about them.
It was night and the adults went out to hunt. Otto and Maya were left alone in the darkness of the savanna, right at the time when hyenas were looking for their next victims. But it wasn't just the hyenas that were active that night, a deadly enemy was hiding among the rocks, very close to the two lion cubs... the black mamba. And she was willing to claim as many victims as necessary.
Maya moved away from her brother, getting even closer to the snake's territory, which didn't stop biting the little girl. When the sun rose, the group returned with the hunt, and one of the females realized that there was only one cub at home. She went looking for Maya, but the lioness didn't return either. Upon finding the body of the missing cub, the lioness was bitten by the snake that was there and succumbed within a few hours.
In the distance, the pride saw the lioness agonizing in pain, and they didn't dare to approach to help, after all, lions know that slaughter is certain when it comes to a black mamba, and from the sounds of pain they heard, they knew that it was a dangerous one. snake. Black mambas are fatal even to them, the most powerful felines in Africa.
Now Otto was the only cub in the pack, and those who really cared about him were on a journey and there was no guarantee that one day they would return.
