This version was erroneously ported in Plug-N-Play releases in 2017. They should have used the SNES version of the game from _Hello! Pac Man_ instead because it sounded accurate to the original.

This is the actual licensed version by Namco. The unlicensed port was released by Tengen in 1990. A what if scenario: What if Atari and Nintendo finalized their deal at CES 1983 to make Nintendo Advanced Video Game System instead of making the NES in 1985. If so, Japanese firm HAL Laboratory (creators of the NES ports of Joust, Millipede and Defender II/Stargate) would've make a better port of the game than that of Tengen and Namco's and it has beginner and expert modes, and it would've been shipped for late 1983. Had HAL's version being made rather than Tengen or Namco's, the title screen music would've been same as Joust, Millipede and Defender II/Stargate.

It was too late in 1983 the NES was already finished and released that year.
@GamingDelight2 жыл бұрын
@@wizzgamer Only in Japan, as the Famicom. It wasn't the Famicom's release in Japan that stymied the deal. It was the following: Coleco's Adam computer showing off Donkey Kong (even though Atari had the rights to port it to PCs) The Atari 7800 (which was only delayed to '86 because of Atari's financial troubles leading its consumer division to be sold to Jack Tramiel who put the 7800 on hold for two years) Ray Kassar (who spearheaded the negotiations between Atari and Nintendo) was terminated. The video game crash of 1983 The only thing Atari got out of the deal was the rights to port Mario Bros. to their platforms.

Man, this must've been a really cheap game for Namco to make. It's pretty much just a hack of their Pac-Man game (note particularly the multiple bananas from 10:43 onward - the programmers just swapped the key sprite for a banana.) Also, is it just me or is the first fruit from the banana onward ALWAYS a banana (and only the second fruit randomized)?
@TuxedoEarth8 жыл бұрын
1993? No wonder this version flew under the radar on the NES. The 16 bit consoles were at their peak at the time, so by then people must've played the SNES and Genesis versions.

Pax Humana. Yeah in 1993 Nintendo was pretty much pushing for Super Nintendo and trying to retire Original Nintendo by this point. Super Mario Brothers 3, Ms. Pac Man and Kirby's Adventures were some of the final Original Nintendo games.

Yep, and the same exact game was also one of the first Famicom games and the quality shows! Wrong maze colors, character sprites clipping through the mazes, slow speed, etc.. The Tengen port is much superior and has a ton of great extras as well.

well it technically was as the Famicom is the NES and vice versa just the NES was released under the Famicom name in Japan so they could have imported it same as the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis are the same console just go by another name in different regions.

I got quite used to playing a speedy Ms. Pac-Man, never found a cabinet with a normal speed version till the cabinet released with Galaga (Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga Class of 1981), that also had Pac-Man hidden as a bonus, Pac-Man unlockable by a simple joystick cheat.

I'm having trouble finding the namco version for NES. Only see 1 listed on Ebay for $100!?!?
@Bloodreign13 жыл бұрын
Both Pac Man and Ms Pac Man Namco variants will run you quite a bit of money as both came out in 1993, during the NES dying days. Oddly enough I paid less for the Namco Ms Pac Man (a shade under $20, purchased locally, the store owner gave me a ton of great deals on more expensive NES games) versus what the Tengen version sells for on Ebay now (the Tengen one sells for over $20, has for years), and this purchase of the Namco one was made locally close to 15 years ago when the Namco variant was still around $100 on Ebay. In other words, it's been expensive quite a long time, but seems to have settled around that $100 mark.
