"Now it's all about graphics" don't you find that a tad bit hypocritical considering that SNK games were released on the NEO GEO? KoF 2003 wasn't turning heads but it still was running on hardware from 1990 and the home version the NEO GEO AES cost 650 dollars US without adjusting to inflation. SNK cared way more about graphics then than they do now.

You didn't get a story ending, but a generic one, this is due to you choosing three characters from different teams, so you wound up getting the actual final boss but the generic ending to anyone who chooses three characters, all from separate teams. You needed to play as Ash's whole team (with Duo Lon and Shen Woo) to get his ending.

I know i'm late but why is there hate on the game i heard the complains were the dull and unsatisfying sounds when a combo connects but people are also saying the soundtrack is the problem and the sprites but it is an arcade game i don't see anything wrong with the sprites. I think this game is fun every KOF game is fun in it's own way except for 12. And also this game introduced new characters and cool bosses and as a KOF fan i think all kof games are good in they're own way they have they're ups and downs except for 12

Wish Choi was in this game. (he made a cameo in one of the stages though) But SNK thankfully brought him back in KOF 14 after a ridiculously long 13 year absence. I would've loved to hear Choi's re-recorded dialogue from SVC Chaos if he actually was in this game. But why did SNK choose to put him into obscurity until 2016?

Although it was your intent, you must use the Ash team to get the Ash ending. Simply having him in the team isn't enough. Although for the sake of WoL, it has never been a requirement to get a 'correct' ending, simply to showcase the game, which you did. Good work.

It fell down the drain because of how badly handled the series was after the KOF: NESTS Saga. If I were SNK: This game would be made much later after the four KOF: Maximum Impact games from 2003 to 2006, then I would start the KOF: Tales of Ash Saga with this game in 2007 under the title "The King of Fighters X" and it would be released for Arcade, PS3, XBOX 360, PC, Android, and iOS.

@@KenMasters. I think the whole problem with the KOF saga was the lack of a decent and coherent exposure of the plot. Whatever there was about it, it was hardly explained during the Gameplay in each game. And even when we finished the game, we had no idea why we got to that state of affairs or why the last fighter was so powerfull or why did he existed. Orochi, nests, ash, etc, is all a bowl of "scrambled eggs" with no serious storytelling nor reason why fighters get downgraded from of their best moves everytime a new KOF was made. My 1st KOF in 3D, was for PS2 and its story was about this sort of alien "butterfly" species that came down to Earth to make a fuss for whatever reason. It was so interesting that i forgot. Then i lost all interest in it because it got boring, just like Tekken's storytelling - the game itself is more about performing aerial combos than strategically fighting or the personal story of each fighter - which gets repeated over and over. Happy New Year, mate!!😉

@@migueruta That's true, because it explains why KOF would go under hiatus at times. Also SNK and 3D graphics don't go together, it even took away the bounce and fluidity in Kim's pants. Yes, the gameplay does get downgraded, because in 1999, that's where Terry had the best set of moves. And the plot... Everytime they run out of ideas, the game would instead be a retcon or reboot, KOF '98 was the first to do this.

I must be really bad at this game because the only ending I got was the one you fight the son of Rugal (I think is his son I never payed attention to the story) and then Game Over. This is the first time I see the real ending.

kof 98 is a great kof but not the best. gameplay got better through time. sure it was complicated at first but practice makes perfect. and the designs were better looking later on although 2001, 2002 and neowave designs sucked. besides 2000, 2002, 2003 had better features that 98 didn't have and vice versa. however i respect your opinions.

@TronPachioftheDynamo Different Character selections, Charakter Look Changes (Terry in 2003 looks totally different), Sometimes Move Changes or new Moves, Different Storys, Battle mode Changes, Different Background Levels and different Music. I dunno why you asked but the Gameplay is obviously the same since it is a Fighting Game but it is one of the Best and famous Game Series.

@@Supermomo2007 no K' team beat Mukai. Kyo and Iori didn't even fight at all in 2003. Kyo and Iori arrive at the orochi seal after team K' were teleported out and Mukai and Botan escaped. It's just a secret ending you get if you use sacred treasures team. In fact team K' are also the ones who defeat Kusanagi, Chizuru and Maki.

seriously the condition to get Mukai as a boss is a pain ! you need to do combo finish Kusanagi nor you stuck forever with Adel thanks to my hack version i had the full roster including Kusanagi,Kagura's twins sister and Mukai but i dont get how to play him ( Mukai)

It's actually not that hard to get the Mukai requirement. Just beat Kusanagi with a super special move, it doesn't even have to be a leader special either. If you want to know bullshit requirements, SvC Chaos is where it's at.

One of the worst KOFs. The gameplay is kinda jittery, the sound sucks and the graphics lack oompf. I appreciate the tag system, but it might not suit KOF all that good. Ash is a generic cliché of an androgynous semi-villain, and the sprites are crappily animated.
