I do think licensed games were probably bought as gifts more often than as personal purchases. Relatives not into gaming won't recognise "Wario" or "Metroid" but will recognise "Ice Age" or "Madagascar". And because licensed games usually don't have save systems (I see this one doesn't either), they were also significantly less expensive.

Well my mother bought me this game. That's why licenced games sold will in the time, even though they are not this good. Parents just thought it would be nice for their children.

Thanks for this. Despite never watching Antz and not asking for it, my parents bought this for me on my game boy. Only remembered because antz just came on tv. This was an awful game. I’m still baffled that my parents chose this. Thanks for uploading the memories I spent hours on this as i got this and “the sum of all fears”. It wasn’t a great selection. I’m still baffled.
