Sequel to the already great game Space Invaders Extreme. This time with more visuals to distract you, item drops to distract you and bonus rounds which run along side the normal gameplay and to top it off, more fiendish bosses as if the game isnt already hard enough on the little ole ds screen. Again some really nice arcady visuals, music and sfx throughout.
I play pretty badly, just wiping out the levels as fast as I can to make it through while keeping my chain count high. S Rating unfortunately isnt quite so easy in this version and very much depends on activating bingo mode once or twice per level to maximize your score. I never really understood how the bingo mechanic works apart from maybe 4 colour, followed by another 4, depending which is flashing on the board, but it rarely gives me those colours to shoot at so ...meh.
I Play 3 rounds. The first two are to show the score attack and time attack modes on Normal. I had to play through another 2 rounds to complete all stages on the board in order to unlock Extreme Mode (Not Shown). The third round shown is then Score attack on Extreme mode. Extreme mode needs completing 3 times to finish all stages, but I havent shown this as nothing is unlocked at the end unfortunately.

I just wish it could be remastered on LITERALLY anything. Hell, even the Intellivision Amico. I do have plans on getting a team together and creating our own remaster, with loads of extra features, as well as remastered music and sound effects.

The first game has been released on japan through the Space Invaders Invincible Collection, it includes Space Invaders Extreme 1 (A switch port of the Steam Remaster version) and some other games. Visuals(mostly the UI) however are based off of both the PSP and DS versions. Music however is entirely based off of the DS release. Sadly, it's only in physical release, for now. I do hope SIE2 gets a remaster as well.

I remember getting the Japanese version of this 6 months before it came to the US. I already had the original on PSP and after purchasing this one, I then got the first one on DS as well. Just had to have it. It's Space Invaders turned on it ear (though Akkenvader aka SI 95 Attack of the Lunar Loonies already had turned the series on it's ear), plays like a rhythm game crossed with a fast paced shmup.

The PC version was actually a "remake" that was stripped of a lot of features and lots of changes that were made that make it deviate from the original substantially. Honestly, they NEED to make more updates.

I hope they make a third game for the 45th or 50th anniversary. They should release it on PS4/PS5, XBOX ONE or whatever would be the new XBOX in 5-10 years, Nintendo Switch, and, obviously Steam. If they don't make a third game for the 45th anniversary, I will make a petition. Mark my words. I will notify you guys 5 years from now. The title should be formatted like, "Space Invaders Extr3mE", or, "Space Invaders ExtrEm3" Tell me which one you'd prefer.

Your cannon shoots to the rhythm, the faster the tempo, the faster your firerate, but how fast you shoot is also determined by your weapon level. Some bosses that shoot those DAMN INDESTRUCTIBLE PURPLE LASERS actually fire them to the beat as well... At least in the first game. Watch closely in all versions of Stage 4 in the first game. Watch how the giant Squid Invader fires the lasers. Fun fact: those INDESTRUCTIBLE PURPLE LASERS were initially going to be BLUE. I found some beta images of Space Invaders Extreme from IGN, and lemme tell ya; it looked COMPLETELY different from the final product.

Difficulty. It's significantly harder: you're penalized for getting hit by your ship's power being lower and there's some pretty mean enemy formations in the later levels.

Bulbinking, The first one has (in my opinion) better music, plus the songs in the first game have more variety in terms of tempo. Also, the first game did all of this first, and that's the charm of it.

Mjolnirs, don't forget that if you get a game over during a boss, you start over the whole stage, while in Extreme 2, you just start over the boss segment. I am glad that change was made. Could you imagine that if you got game over on Stage 5-D's boss, you would have to start over the whole damn stage? Whew, it gives me the chills just thinking about it.
