I think it's just supposed to evoke the illusion of speed. Not sure if it's meant to litterally be curved. Also could be that it was looking boring when they tried a straight line.

I give credit to anyone able to finish this without the use of savestates. Most of population on this planet would. Shmup enthusiasts are a fraction of a faction of the population.

R TYPE 1 & 2 both on Arcade original and PS1 versions are equally masterpiece even 35 years after its initial release. My best highscore in R TYPE II is: 768270pts.

Yes, the music is pretty tinny, but Super R-Type sucked compared to this... the SNES game was a weaksauce conversion and terrible compared to the arcade game... not to mention the original R-Type games on the PC Engine and PSX. Level 2 on RT2 coin-op is brilliant...
