@IsaacInfernape2000 32X doom isn't that bad. Graphics and FPS are better than SNES doom. It's missing a few levels but it is certainly much better than Saturn Doom. Sound effects all being sampled at least in the original can't have been messed up really. Music might be crap though I suppose but the game is not awful. There is less difference between it and the original than there was between arcade games and many console ports at the time. 3DO doom is worse performance-wise too.

@@bangerbangerbro Yeah Treasure were wizards on the MD, check out what Mega Drive Profile has to say about the game and of course I recommend completing it yourself (if you can, it's not easy!) @@retrosoul8770 Despite being a Megadrive guy, I didn't really know much about them a few months ago, pretty much dismissing someone talking about their games when giving examples of something impressive. But a week or so ago I found Dynamite Headdy (probably their best selling and most common game) for sale at a local shop for an OK price and bought it as I knew it was meant to be good. I like the visuals of it and the sound (nice sounds though I am not a massive fan of the music itself as in the composition of most of it) but I'm not the biggest fan of the game. It reminds me of Rayman in some ways which I don't particularly like either. Maybe it will grow on me. I think I'm just not really into the theme it has and a lot of the things in it I find a little creepy though I will probably get used to them. The sampling is the clearest I have ever heard on Megadrive though. Some of the bosses remind me of Yoshi's Island bosses what with the weird squashing and stretching things some of them do. In the practice target thing I was worried I was going to damage my controller. MD controllers are a bit rickety and the D-pads do that rubbing thing that is especially noticeable when you use them fast. But after getting that I started properly looking at the treasure stuff and of course despairing at the prices - maybe I was better off not knowing haha!

Development of Alien Soldier lasted two years and was led by Hideyuki Suganami, who from the start wanted to make the entire game himself. Despite 32-bit fifth generation hardware already on the market, he chose to program the game for the 16-bit Mega Drive, claiming that he may have been too captivated by the idea of making an "action shooting" game. Suganami was deeply invested in the game and devoted a lot of time to developing it. After the game's release, he wished he continued working on the game, believing he could have improved on the story and graphics.[5]

Planned stuff which don't make their way in the final product is quite common phenomenon in video games history & reasons for this can be multiple: memory space constraints (especially prior to the CD era); time constraints (development time &/or the need to meet the deadline); better content focus rather than add what could be unnecessary stuff (some games don't need to be longer than what they are)... I'm not surprised that Alien Soldier' designers had more on their hands given how creative they are but I won't call it an "unfinished game", rather something that had potential for a sequel (that white giant man is intriguing tho & somehow makes me think of Radiant Silvergun final boss).

Personally I prefer Gunstar Heroes more. Just as much action, nonstop enemy waves, less bosses, more focus on platforming. GH is also pretty badass in itself. As for the SNES, it was built more for RPG's, which it is king of for that generation of gaming. Both systems churned out some pretty damned good platformers too. To me this game felt a little hollow, the focus was too much on boss battles, I prefer to have some fodder to destroy before I reach the boss, something Gunstar Heroes delivers in spades.

Anyone else is here just because they're curious about Isekai Ojisan's favorite game? I've played a few treasure games before, but this one looks janky as hell. I understand why the nephew doesn't like it.

I did too, got mine from retrogamerbackups. Here in the states we were robbed of this timeless classic by Sega because they were too stupid crapping on themselves with the abysmal 32x and launching the Saturn early.
