The original RoboCop is one of the greatest sci fi pics ever made - much better than the sequels. It was exciting, funny, poignant and just flat out awesome. Great film.

@@NotXboxiie The newer one lacks the humor and made the world much darker overall. It gives Robocop more of his humanity in appearance, but removes a lot of his bad-ass attitude and humor. Newer ones could be much worse, sure, but I'm not sure I'd consider them better in terms of writing.

Keaton & Bale were on par for me as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Tim Burton said at the time that he deliberately avoided 'bigger guys' because they could just put a ski mask on and kick the crap out of villains. He wanted Keaton, because apart from working previously, Burton wanted his Batman to be more believable as a normal guy. Or words to that effect, the interview was over 30 years ago, so my memory is a little rusty lol.

I will share this with you guys. Robocop and Predator was and are still my favourite movies of my childhood. I was only 13 years old when this awesome film came out and the world was a much better place to live in the uk but you could feel a new age coming in technology. I remember asking my mum if i could go to town on Saturday to the cinema with my friend, expecting a stern NO, strangely she said yes and gave me £5. i remember back then it was a lot of money for a kid may be £20 in todays money. I could get bus there and back, lunch and film ticket. I felt so independent. I rang my friend (House phone remember) and his mum said he could go as well. We checked the papers and saw Short Circuit was on so we took the bus into town. When we got to the cinema we had a huge queue to wait in for about 35 mins that went out of the building down the side of the building, as we got to near the front there was movie posters up of what was playing and i saw the Robocop poster. Wow. Looking at that next to the shitty old short circuit i didn't want to see SC anymore but this fantastic looking Robocop movie. there was a big problem tho as the film was either a 15 or 18 cert at the time and we were young looking kids & would def be rejected on age. I had a plan, we brought the SC tickets and a drink, watched the film. Hung about until the screening of Robocop was over in the next screen room, waited for the usher to move from the door and sneaked in at the back when the next batch of people went in, i even remember looking at the door from the back watching to see the usher and diving behind the seats when he looked in, my friend was not used to covert mischief and thought if we got caught the police would be called LOL. It was the Best film i could have wished to see, my friend was terrified and looked like he had PTSD after it lol. Did the same with Predator too a few week later. Still have love for The Robocop films even the sequel was good with Kane and the kid with the Nuke. It died on its arse with 3 which is a real shame. But the art and vison of Paul Verhoeven were truly magical and raw. The black comedy was a great touch in these films broke the violence up a bit. Its wonderful to see nearly everybody is still well and looking amazing. They have aged very well.

That what's missing, the WRITERS. Ed Neumeier and Michael Minor. They CREATED the characters and world of RoboCop, the actors bright the characters to life, the director managed they're emotions, the director of photography the DP, shootd the images, the logging and effects guys set the mood within each scene, and the set decorators created the writers' vision into a real world setting. And lastly, the executive producers paid for all of this great work and AMAZING.

Movie makers nowadays wanted fast and easy with green screen as much as possible without having to get to various location, prepare all the props and equipments then marked up real high on the costs. @Nabeshin07 I know. Not sure if it's the fact that I grew up during the golden age of action movies that makes me think this way, or that today's efforts are genuinely lacking. Rose-tinted glasses are almost certainly a factor, but at a very base level I don't see an action star in the current era that has the same heft that Arnie / JCVD / Stallone did back in the day. And on top of that, I don't think CGI brings the same level of audience appreciation that in-camera practical effects do.
