@Carl Rheinhardt My IT brochure was worn tattered pages worse than the JC Penney catalog bra section . Lol my cousin had the 175 and let me run it when we were on a break harvesting corn in November. I had to give it back when I couldn’t feel my hands from being on literal brink of frostbite without gloves..... just like it was yesterday I can still smell that two stroke in my mind . I had a DT 175 . No comparison especially suspension .

As of this date I’m writing, April 9, 2021, there are 8 dislikes for this video. It’s beyond my realm of understanding why this video should receive any negative comments. Absolutely gorgeous IT490. The subject title describes what the video is about. So there should be no shock or disclaimer within the video. So puzzling why’ a beautiful bike and clear description would be viewed negatively.

465 owner since 1986, bike sat in the garage for 25 years, One day I seen Navy seebee's video and decided to restore the bike to new condition. So in 2018 I did just that, took all winter, but it was worth it. Had well over $1000 in it plus a lot of time. Bike has all new bearings, even the rod bearing was done, though I don't think it needed it. My friend is a wizard at doing rod bearings on these old singles only took him 45 minutes, and that included truing it up to better than new specs.

I had an IT 250 about the same age. What a great bike. The main reason I traded it out was marriage (so don't get married) and the drum brakes. Having a disk brake, at least on the front, makes such a difference. Also reverse shocks make a difference. But for the era, this was a great bike. Not as much power as say a YZ, but enough and the power band was wider. Of course the IT was air cooled as well, but at the time it was a great reliable bike. It just needed better brakes and front shocks. Some guy from the Philippines bought it from me and I am sure it it still running around there as a daily commuter.

One of these was bought in Australia on 22 December 2020 and shipped to a wealthy Yamaha collector in NZ to recieve it as a Xmas present from his mrs...and that one was no way as clean and new as this one!! I won't say how much it was bought for exactly but will say was over $10,000 USD for one that's nowhere as nice as this one.. When this is running, you can hear that it has serious power as per the heavier than normal 'bop...bop...ting' at idle unlike the new liquid cooled CR500s that are alot smoother...I'd love to see that Yammi go up against a CR500 down at 'Kaplan straight' along the fence line...people will be suprised!
