I spent about a week in Najaf ( more on that to come)
This is my visit to the worlds largest graveyard! i wish i had been able to bring my drone on this trip as you just cant see the magnitude in size of this place! It is Massive!!! Although online sources say 5 million locals say it’s closer to 8 million people here!
Najaf is one of the holiest cities in Iraq so covering up for a woman is a must do, i didn't have to wear the hijab, but i had it on anyway, a scarf wouldv'e been fine.
i had never heard of this place until i started researching the area, and again good old Atlas Obscura gave me the idea also! i think there is a higher point where you can see the whole place, but we didn't find it. i was with Maram, Karar and Hassam from the English school. The history here is amazing and also a very sad place , especially as the have large photos of those that are buried here, the childrens photos were hard to see, and so many also.

💐❤️💐 نداء للشعب العراقي و لكل مسلم : يرجى تنظيف مناطق تكدس النفايات و عدم رميها في الأسواق و المقابر و أينما كان لان النظافة من الإيمان و هي مظهر حضاري يدل على وعي أفراد المجتمع و تحملهم للمسؤولية، و كما أن إزالة الاذى عن الطريق صدقة فكذلك إلقاء الاذى و تشويه الأماكن و نشر القاذورات و الامراض ورز و إثم على اصحابها، لا يحتاج هذا الامر إلى جهد كبير و إنما يحتاج إلى وضع ما انتهينا من استخدامه في أماكن الحاويات او إعادة استخدامها كوضع بقايا الطعام في سطول و تركها فترة حتى تتحول إلى سماد طبيعي و إعادة وضعها في التربة.

I had honored of visiting Najaf ,Iraq. While in Najaf I had no inkling of this huge grave existence. I am astonished to learn the grave is 1400 years old. The grave is known by the name Valley of peace and Valley of Paradise. True to its name the departed soul are rest here in eternal peace.The Muslim particularly Shia have their wish to be buried here.Even from far off place like Iran the dead are brought here.This grave is the largest in the world .May visiting the grave bring solace to the families and friends of the departed soul.
