If I was a multi billionaire, I don't think I would really want something this size UNLESS I had a huge family and lots of special friends. The sheer size makes this yacht a ship. And I wouldn't mind betting the owner uses it for no more than three months a year.

I think it's the same reason those arabic billionaires live in massive palaces with lots of hidden ways and way too much space: They don't want the staff to interfere too much with them and their guests. They have these huge houses over in arabia, but you don't ever see any of the 30 people working there at all times, because they are not meant to constantly dangle through the private part of the owner all the time. Same with yachts I suppose. The bigger the boat, the less need to weasel between the bosses feet.

Most are registered under crown territories such as the Cayman Islands. Tax status, British law (which is well known and understood throughout the western world) and consular support all apply when under this flag. Also, the vessel can easily switch port from one red ensign to another - Cayman to Gibraltar. There are many perks and the infrastructure is all there and ready from an operation standpoint.

Can you imagine someone using this yacht for their wife and 2 kids? Does every person get their own floor? Even if you have $85 billion like Bill Gates today. Do you really need a yacht that's 500 feet long? It looks gigantic from the outside, from the inside it must seem much bigger especially for a family of 4. Imagine going on a cruise. But instead of seeing 1500 people all around you, you're all alone with your wife and 2 kids. Just imagine that for a second. Isn't that overboard too much?

Не думаю что дороже приличного замка где нибудь во Франции, с той лишь разницей что всегда можно продать владельцу любого региона мира, и не надо платить ежегодный налог. А причал можно иметь и свой. Да и статус в обществе в определенных кругах всегда стоил дорого. Конечно редко когда яхта такого класса может вернуть владельцу полную стоимость при перепродаже. В данном случае думаю , а какая разница.

Not according to the spec on the new Dilbar, she has accommodation for 40 guests, and the old Dilbar had accommodation for 20, so ol Alisher Usmanov found 20 new 'friends'. lol The SOLAS regulation usually restricts the number of guests to 12, which is why smaller super and mega yachts usually have accommodation for just 12 plus the owner and his squeeze, but Dilbar as she can fit 40, is probably classified as a commercial ship and comes under a different set of rules, plus she is big enough to be classed as a ship, and not a yacht.
