How insane was Wang Chuqin's footwork in this session? 🏓

I think the trainer was insane. Wang loses to pace-disruption artist Lind, and all he's getting stock pattern drills for forehand drive with minor variations in speed and spin. No chop-blocks, no sideswipe shots, no garbage balls. It's as though he just lost to Jonathon Groth, or Marcos Freitas.

OK, you can answer a puzzle then. Was this drill format basically all Wang was being trained on all that time? Because he lost Anders Lind, most of the ball feeding ought to the sort of wicked mix of drive/drop/chop-block/sideswipe/etc. that Lind specializes in throwing at opponents. (But not excluding the rallies that Lind is also capable of).

He said he didn't want to lose the game after losing, is his most painful time. "Above the pain is the dawn", is a word he has always believed, and now, after the baptism of the first Olympic Games, love, diligence and unyielding have been integrated into his blood. "I wish I could be happier." He paused, then added, "The joy is not thinking too much, coming into every match after this year with a pure attitude of enjoying table tennis, enjoying the competition." We believe he will be back🦁

This is insane. As for WCQ’s recent losses, I used to think he was just going through some post-Olympic blues, like you often see with track athletes, though I’m not sure how common that is in table tennis. It seems like his team hasn’t been giving him proper mental health support either. But after watching China Smash, it feels like he hasn’t fully gotten back into serious training or physical recovery. The CNT players practice daily for extremely long hours, but it just looks like regular and intense drills-nothing special or targeted for the top ones.

After the end of the Paris Olympics, Wang Chuqin admitted that he may not have adjusted well: "Normal after the Olympics such a big event should be a short break, but time is running out, and now I have to adapt and accept the situation. Athletes are not machines, but also need to release their emotions and adjust their bodies and minds. What kind of game to face with what kind of state and thought, this is what I have to go back to plan properly." "I hope I can become happier. This happiness refers to not thinking too much and facing every match after this year with a pure attitude of enjoying table tennis and enjoying the game." In addition, Wang Chuchin described billiards as "a particularly good programme for training logical thinking. Because billiards does not care about the gain or loss of a ball, but requires overall planning. To play well, you have to think about how to use one ball to connect to another ball, with what kind of pole method and skills to let the white ball to a comfortable position, and then to connect to the next ball, especially test a person's big picture view. In terms of details, it is again a constant test of understanding the nuances of each ball's spin angle ......" "Next cycle, I hope to have more time to focus on singles. Of course the mixed doubles programme was the focus of the last cycle, I am a left-handed athlete, in the doubles programme with a right-handed player, this left, right, one person, one board, especially conducive to interspersed running, in the field of play, no matter before or after the left and right can take care of. I also drove my singles through the mixed doubles and doubles events, step by step." "But next time, still want to strengthen in the men's singles programme. Because that's my regret of this Olympics. To keep competing in the new cycle, keep making myself fight for opportunities in the fight. It's a matter of building up step by step, little by little, to see, in the end, that there is such an opportunity."

@@VincentTan-jm8jl Well, it’s interesting how the CNT players seem to talk a lot, but most of their interviews feel pointless. It sounds like he understands the importance of rest and mental and physical recovery, but says there’s no time. What ‘time’ is running out? Is his unhappiness the reason behind his recent losses? What’s the logic here? Thanks for sharing though. Btw, where can I follow updates (like this interview) about CNT?
