+Galistia There is a magnetic brake device too so the magnetic launch can quickly change from "launch" to "brake" since the train has left the section, which can slowly get the train down. See, there are some magnetic launch coasters too like Mr. Freeze (it is a shuttle coaster) it also runs back into the launch where it brakes.

I'm thinking more along the lines of power failure. There has to be some sort of permanent magnetic brakes or other method such that if there is a problem, you don't have a sudden freefall from 500 feet.

+Ravaxr an anti-rollback system on the bottom of the trains would still work. look at a ride like sheikra, if the chain breaks, there's the mechanism that keeps it from falling down the lift hill.

The problem is, I guess due to the same way levers function, that almost every elementary school physics lessons talk about, higher up the train is, less lateral force needed to shake the whole building. I found that out when I made a poler coaster out of k'nex. If they build it, they would need to make massive supports from the sides to keep it stable or somehow manage to run the trains in a way that would perfectly balance the stress on the tower. Which would be really hard and unreliable

Tbh. I do get the concerns on rollbacks though. It would be pretty terrifying but then again, on a ride like this (even though its never getting made) they would make sure a rollback would be heavily controlled so it doesn't just freefall back to the loading station. Also this really does look like a crazy ride someone would build on a roller coaster tycoon.

Hoshimaru57 well, like most modern rollercoasters they have breaks, and they dont work on power. just aluminium fins that use magnetic friction (science class equivalent of magnet in an aluminium rod)

well, similar, you'd have it at 500ft. I honestly don't think there is any issues for it to work, it is a new thing, skyscraper roller coasters. there are regulations in place for when something happens. it all must be planned for, before its being build. every worst case scenario. Secondly, power failures are non issues, as rollercoasters are designed that, when power fails, it still can stop cars. (block brakes are a thing for a reason, and they do stop cars when power is lost) I know one thing for sure, orlando is the only of a few places where a coaster like that could work (given the cost compared to other coasters)

Check out the ones at the top of the stratosphere hotel in Vegas, those that ride the rollercoaster's up there must be insane. Hell, anyone that rides ANY of the rides, or bungie jumps from up there, must be insane!

they are engineered and designed perfectly safe. they wouldn't make a 500+ foot rollercoaster for it to be sketchy. plus its going to be in a very popular place in Orlando. and I think its being built by intamin so u can always trust theme. they make great coasters!

I have a good idea for a cool coaster. Build one that starts outside with a lift hill, or do a launch system, and have the coaster dive into a cave with an Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom mine car escape type theme with tight turns, air time hills, barrel rolls, and fast spirals around clusters of stalagmites, stalactites, and cool rock formations with red and orange lighting to give a volcanic mine type ambiance. Or start it inside and make it a completely indoor/underground coaster. That would be a cool ride. Find a cave with enough chambers and room for the track layout. An underground lake or waterfall would be a great plus too. Do as little damage as possible to the cave to put in the foundation supports for the track, and the lighting, equipment, wiring, etc. Make the track supports look like natural rock formations. Put in a Thuggee cult statue of Kali, the goddess of death, the doors to the sacrificial lava pit where the Thuggee do human sacrifices, the skull with the three glowing Sankara stones in the eyes and nose, as well as plenty of other skulls and cobra statues in the indoor/underground excavated part at the beginning of the ride before it goes into the natural cave. Call it The Temple Of Doom. Hold onto your soul as you ride at your own risk! Ha ha ha ha. Kali ma shakti de! Bolo gelado! Oh crap, someone will probably steal my idea now. Just remember, Jeff in NC thought of it.

Shoulder restraints aren't needed, firm lap bars are enough to keep you in the seats, some examples of coaster that I've ridden where it's gone upside without should restraints are Full Throttle and Twisted Colossus.

Over the shoulder restraints are not needed on any ride. Lap bars are far more comfortable and I prefer lap bars because there isn't head banging. Some rides do need them, not for inversions but for twistiness and the OTS restraints on twisty rides prevent whiplash.

Originally was expected for 2017, but they ran into a ton of delays getting it approved (with Universal fighting tooth and nail to prevent this from happening). It's approved and funded, but will be pushed back a year or two.
