How he can create awkward strokes to control the rhythm of the game keeps him at another high level, especially at the age of 36. Staying on the scene for such a long period, he's probably won more championships than anyone else. Undisputable G.O.A.T. On the other hand, Hugo is very capable, powerful, determined and fair. He would have beaten most players on this performance but ML's still on top of him. Great match, much appreciated.

Jan-Ove Waldner from Sweden retired at age 51. Hence, Ma Long is still too young to retire! He's got a lot of years in front of him. Between WCQ losing early and FZD also almost losing to Harimoto, China was that close to coming home from Paris with ZERO medals in the men's event. In hindsight, they should have sent Fan and Ma Long again. Neither is as good as a peak form WCQ, but on the other hand, neither is gonna get bounced in early rounds either, and more likely than not it would have been a ML vs FZD final again. A third gold for Ma Long would have been a massive achievement, even further cementing him as the GOAT, although in that case I would feel sorry for Fan, who would have ended up sort of the Wang Hao of his generation if he kept coming up short at the Olympics.

To be fair different players work better or worse against each other. Ma Long's strategic and less predictable style doesnt suit Calderano's, who doesn't mind speed rallying and has shown he can beat other top guys like FZD.

Great match by these two talented table tennis super stars; however, i would enjoy the day when WTT ceases to produce these ITTF events. WTT is the worst thing that could have ever happened to the sport. Name me one rocket sport that is broadcast from such a high camera angle from the side of the court. We need to see what makes table tennis such a highly complex sport. We need to be able to see the speed and agility of the players; and we need to be able to see the dynamic movements of the ball. All this are lost when the sport is broadcast at such a waird angle. Place the camera at a lower angle, behind the player. WTT, you are not being innovative. This is a total regression of the sport.

I understand your comment, But Ma Long was at the Paris Olympics and Won Gold for the TEAMS event. The reason why he was not picked is Wang Chuqin and Fan Zhendong are ranked higher than him.
