I really hate that TKD has evolved into 10 minutes of sloppy pokes with the front leg. We need the old school back. 1980s to early 2000s had more power and diversity of techniques.

I’ve been saying this on all the videos on KZbin. I competed in the 90s and 2000s and last one was 2014 nationals, so I’ve seen a lot is the point. It’s not a case of “it was better back then”. The new rules and scoring has turned it into something truly awful.
@michaelhansolbaek5 жыл бұрын
there is a level of brilliance going on here that those who keep saying "i miss the old school" don't seem to understand. Sure, old school matches were more exciting to watch, but require more fighting instinct and far less technique. But Taekwondo has evolved like boxing/UFC where at the highest echelon, the skill level is so similar that everyone needs to play carefully otherwise they'll lose 6-10 almost instantly because of how quickly these guys can hit the head. Stop complaining about foot fencing and appreciate greatness.

we call it front foot/leg roundhouse kick, the term reverse roundhouse kick is kind of confusing as it's interpreted differently from one person to another. It can refer to a hook kick (as reverse in rotation direction) or a twist kick (as reverse in kicking direction) or perhaps something else, I don't know, could be an outward crescent kick as well.

In old school you don't need to look at the replay to make sure that a kick landed, because if you where unsure it doesn't matter, means the kick was to weak. When a head kick or any other kick or even punches really landed, back there, you just see it clearly and then it count as a point. Kukkiwon and WT(F) should think more seriously about the way they want tkd to evolve and spread across the globe and generations. We need to reinforce the traditions, of the martial art and its values and forget a little(A lot?) about the sport and competitions. Old school teachers, masters and fighters must show how REAL TKD looks like, from the basis of the philosophy and history trough the technics, self defense, life style etc. When you go fight just don't do this, fight old-school style and show how it done, the score doesn't matter. Ps. I am ashamed to see that kind of fight specialty when they do that little second kick when the leg is already in the air and score a point with barely a touch. Its embarrassing. Make me fell ashamed to let anyone knows that im a black belt. For sure i am not a black belt in that.

Quite the opposite: why so aggressive? Especially when accuracy matters more than power. As long as your power is enough, it registers point(s). But the point isn't calculated from how big your power is. Quite likely, the stronger power you throw, the less accurate your attack would be. There are ways to bring the FIGHT back into the game. You can earn your living making people fall down and making them go out of the ring. No more 1/2 pts for those infractions, everything is a full point. Also, punch people inside and dont allow the clinch. Develop clinch denial and use the now legal push to make your inside game more effective. People put up with grabbing way too much. Learn to grapple within the TKD game and you will see something more resembling fighting again. It IS possible.
@rfabbri3 жыл бұрын
If they encourage full blown TKD in the point system, we will start seeing deaths and crippling. A single roundhouse kick can completely deface the oponent. So it is like they are trying to tame an extremely violent art into a light sport, so in the end it is the art itself that becomes defaced.
