Woronora Dam (Sydney) spilling for first time in 20 years!

After the incredible rains of early 2022 in New South Wales, I had to take a bike ride to Woronora Dam to see the spillway in action after almost 20 years!!

It’s difficult to appreciate the scale of this spillway in the video - each of the “sides” of the triangular spillway is about 15 metres (50 ft) long and about 2 metres (6 ft 6 in) tall…

P.s. it’s zig zag like this to increase the length, which increases the volume that can be discharged for a given height of water above the crest

Yes indeed! At one point the reservoir was 0.6 metres above the spillway level… 😮😮😮

My friend lives down in woronora and he showed me a video of the river. It was going so fast and he lost our whole Jedi and alot of stuff.
