As a DaD addict I can confidently say I uninstalled. Horrible balancing under the guise of EA was the main reason. I've never seen a company flip flop on horrible decision this much in my 32 years of living. Makes you wonder if they even play/test the game or if they just watch streams. Its a simple answer. You must cater to the causal and new players to keep a player base. Listening to the chads and the all day players will be there down fall. The normal dungeons should be max green and very rarely should blue even spawn. Then lower the cost of highrollers. Make ruins a 3 man again and allow that to be the everything goes area. That will help alot of new players and allow them the option of joining the purple buffballs in a cheap crypts or a free ruins

It’s so new-player unfriendly. My friends just end up quitting after getting stomped by chads in norm lobbies for the 27th time. I don’t think they’ve made it out more than 5 times in crypts. Also there’s seemingly no middle-class, it’s either nakeds or full geared kids. The game is definitely extremely rough for a new player which is honestly terrible for keeping games alive.

There are just too many glaring issues with the way the devs handle this game IMO. They don't have routine scheduled maintenance, it's sporadic and unprofessional. Their excuse is that it's early access, but plenty of other early access devs don't jerk their community around like Ironmace does. On top of that, the balance is still not quite there, and they make changes so often it's truly hard to tell if they give things enough time. And of course, the issue with the nature of the game itself, which is that it mainly rewards players who only play this game and pour all of their time into it. Add the fact that there are still not any Quests or true objectives for players to do outside of the wipe loop and leaderboards, and you've got one hodgepodge of a mess. My prediction is another studio will come along that makes a clone but handles their approach to balancing/updates better (maybe Project Crawl tbh) and players will migrate to that instead. I love Dark and Darker, but that's probably going to be the sad reality of it.

Yeah, unfortunately. The devs are just too "all over the place" with literally any and all changes related to the game. Gear is too strong so 90% of the fights in the game are stat checks instead of skill differences. There were 2 times when I genuinely enjoyed the game and saw a bright future for it: When ANY stat was MAX +1 on any piece of gear (at the start of this wipe, which unfortunately only lasted 1 or 2 days) and when gear cap was introduced to the NR maps so only blue gear could be brought into the lobby. Both of those times, the game was actually playable. I don't put a ton of time into the game, so I don't have a ton of gold or gear to work with and playing against players who played 20 hours a day with full purple gear and tens of thousands of gold was just unfun. Period. However, when the gear was only a max of +1 stat of any kind on any piece, even BIS purple gear wasn't THAT much stronger than decent blue gear. Even good green gear could compete to a degree with bad purple gear because the gear itself wasn't giving THAT much of an advantage and it was much more about skill expression. Everything I just said from above was only related to the balancing. The devs are very sporadic when it comes to updates, fixes, balancing, etc. For example, when they removed 50% stat scaling on ALL spells. Why? Wizard was "over performing in high roller".. but why was wizard over performing? Is wizard overpowered and needed nerfed? No. It's just that the "meta" comp back then was Fighter Bard Cleric -- which Wizard hard counters entirely. So yeah, of course wiz was over-performing.. it's the one class that countered the meta back then. It was a terrible balance decision made based solely on statistics of games alone instead of actually addressing the bigger picture. Also, where's the statistics now? Where's all the data? When we were all playing in the playtests, the devs released the data from normal dungeons, high roller, etc, so we could all see the big picture as to what was overperforming and where it was overperforming. One of the moderators in the discord claimed that "their team was extremely transparent and doing everything they can to make sure the game stays fun and enjoyable for everyone" but that is just a flat out lie. The community's interests are on the back burner as we saw with the gear cap removal. Thousands of thumbs downs and less than one thousand thumbs ups in just hours. If the community was actually in their best interest, this change would've been reverted. The only valid explanation I heard from anybody was that the gear cap removal forced players into high roller to use their purple gear so it was providing skewed data and statistics on how they could improve HR to give it more incentive to play. This was actually a valid point, but the devs still have yet to come up with any kind of solution to the mess that is high roller. Simply, they just need to slow the timers down for zone in high roller, if nothing else. Give players time to camp, rest, kill the stronger mobs, loot, etc. The map just closes in too fast so you can't really actually play the game. Not to mention the normal dungeon is way too loaded with good loot. When I can find an orange rarity item in normal dungeon, something is wrong with the loot pools. Period. Why would anybody waste their time and gold going high roller when you can just run normal dungeon and get the same or just better loot?

And you have to give them credit, they have pioneered a new subgenre of games with this dungeon crawling extractor, which we are already seeing people try to replicate (Greed is Good, Project Crawl) and doing that while battling Nexon in court. They deserve credit. I just wish they would figure things out a little bit as it seems like the overall hype for the game is fading, and it seems to be (at least in my friend group) due to frustrations with frequent and inconsistent updates/wipes/balancing, rather than with the concept or the game itself. And I will add, probably in a year or two down the line, this game will be something even more fantastic than it was at launch, I just hope that people stick around that long to see it to that point.

Legit all my friends except 1 have quit this wipe. The gear this last wipe has been insane. The games are 1 team of BIS sweeping the entire lobby and not even looting because theres no good reason to go high roller and no gear cap in normals. Bows hit harder than Zweihanders. Theres no point showing friends the game because the new player experience is a nightmare. Worst of all they gave us a taste of the game being great with balanced gear and gear cap, yet they keep going backwards. Its like they see if an idea is massively popular then revert it. They refuse to implement ideas like practice dummy room or auction house. The wording makes no sense, even people who play 24/7 don't know how the skills/stats work. I'm not a pro but not a timmy. Been playing since playtest 3, maybe its a skill issue but the game shouldnt just be playable by people who are unemployed. Sucks because the core of the game is a gem, ironmace is cool dev team, hope it doesnt die.

Personally I think HR should be what most players gravitate towards instead of only skilled players or people who dump tons of time into the game and leave normal dungeons for people trying to make some gold to work with or level or learn. i think they will find a good balance the dark and darker devs are learning and making the game better. slowly but surely they will make the game playable and fair. it wont die this game is toooo good.

i quit after the first wipe when they announced the second wipe like for the next week or something like that. i gave them the benefit of the doubt cuz it was early access but ultimately decided it wasnt worth playing because you would just have to grind over and over again to just get stomped by people with insane gear. balancing has always been a shit show and there is nothing to work towards. ill come back if they figure it out and if the game isnt dead by then

They do need to add quest's and class stuff to do, probably fetch quest stuff from the merchants as well as class specific quests that might actually do something with unlocking abilities or new perks or crafting recipes, and they also need to bring back the gear cap. What they actually, sincerely need to do, is stop listening to streamer culture, most reactive decisions their making are based on leaderboards. The gear cap makes it so new players arent getting steamrolled, that the full purple kit "seal clubbing team" can go have fun in their meta lobbies with streamers and ttv kids, and then have everybody else actually enjoying the game. It's something that's actively killing most games right now but the people who do it refuse to change, which is people who either have no job or the game itself IS the job, dominating the game at every turn. It's also something I call "The Rust Effect", where the game cannot be played casually, you HAVE to be on the game learning, playing, grinding 20 hours a day, 5 days a week, or else you just fail and lose everything over and over and over. It's easy to see that nobody liked them reverting the gear based lobbies EXCEPT for the people it benefits from. Nobody goes highroller even though it's fairly easy because of the initial cost to jump in, when it's 50 gold to get in, you can reasonably have "worse" players try to go for some better loot.

No other motivation other than leaderboards and those are for hardcore players only. No method to catch gold inflation other than trade fee and buying from merchants. While people make 1k a run by ratting in highroller. They need to release the class tree function that works like the stash in tarkov for players to sink in gold and resources I think.

i feel like if you go in with the most basic gear, it would be nice if they pared you to the same gear quality. i sometimes go to goblin cave against level 20s with blue and purple gear wiping lobbies. basically quit after that

Too many tryharders in this making it unbearable for those who actually have a job and cant play 15 hrs a day 9 days a week. I Love the game but watching youtubers like Apoloo or the other tryharders just makes me dont want to play and I cant be the only one

Really couldnt care what Jay plays, its fucking funny. People didnt come to watch Dark and Darker as much as to watch you man. Any sort of goofy game and im here for it. That said, they should add the gear cap back if they care about player retention.

most of the players who are geared will stop playing because they dont want to have to farm gear again. Wipes are when new players have a chance to actually survive a lobby without 3-man portal campers or buff-ball/murder-ball teams steamrolling lobbies in full purp/legendaries. My last play was PT2 and i just spent the last few days leveling a wizard to at least lvl 15. It's an absolute nightmare for ungeared players right now, but thats the flaw of extraction games.
