I totally agree 100% why oh why can’t people just enjoy Eric Claptons fantastic and wonderful music. I just don’t understand why they can’t just listen.

Went to that Gig, 1980, Barcelona, it was my first contact with live blues...moved me to tears. After that been listening to the double LP and remembering every second of the concert all my life. At that time I used to score the concerts, this one is the only one that got a 10 (went to awesome concerts, and still do, not scoring right now ;) ).

Eric Clapton is such a great gitarist and vocalist! I love his vocals. I won't go as far as far as to call him the single best bluesman of our time, since there are a couple other awesome artists, but he's certainly one of the few greatest. And quite possibly the most influential. I'm so glad he's not retiring just yet!

This was, I think, his first album with his new, British, band after he had dispensed with the American band he had had with him for much of the 70s. What was interesting was that the last track on his previous album, 'Backless', was 'Tulsa Time' featuring Dick Sims on keyboards. The first track on this (double) album) is also 'Tulsa Time' . The difference is that Chris Stainton's keyboard intro on this album is light years ahead of Dick Sims' work on the same track on 'Backless'. You can also hear Chris Stainton's virtuosity on this track. He would be the heart and soul of any eclectic rock band that I might put together, together with Albert Lee who is also on this album.

Eric makes this sound easy you can almost imagine its a local bunch of guys except compared to Eric they all over play. He's not the best blues player by a long shot but certainly one of the most consistently tasteful players he just doesn't seem to play any bad notes Also a ethical man he doesn't steal others material and change a little and not pay the copywriter fee's he always credits the original performance and stays true to the song.

@sleakitweasel No way man, check out his early 90's playing when he did "from the cradle" and worked on his "nothin' but the blues" documentary. Search clapton, everyday I have the blues and find all the other concert videos where he's either playing his white strat or cherry red gibson in the same concert at the small venue with the blueish stage. It will blow you away, hands down his best playing.

This is the only Clapton album that has stood the test of time, I reckon. When he sobered up and bought a Stratocaster with the dreadful middly sounding pickups, he just lost it big time. His playing on this album is subtle and tuneful and the band are sly and clever. Listen to Blues Power and you'll hear Clapton actually playing aggressively! Not something we've heard since Cream and it's a thing of the past for the man now sadly.
