Enjoy!

One redeeming quality of Mythicon games? I like the cartridge label art with the more serious sci-fi tone. For a budget production, I wonder how they sourced the art.

Yeah, the box art is really great.

I had all three of these as a kid. They were indeed bargain bin games from KayBee. I might have paid $1.99 each. They were terrible then too, but at least they were super easy.

So the story guy earned his money. The game designer and programmers...not so much. Thanks for the fun video!

Anyone who says E.T. is the worst game ever has never played Firefly. THAT gets the award for worst game ever in my book.

I think it's Star fox, but it fine line. It' like saying stepping dog sh*t is worse than horse sh*t

I sunk many many hours into ET when I was a kid. I played quite a few Atari 2600 games, and for me, the worst by far from the ones I tried was Star Wars: Jedi Arena. I could only stand it for like 3 minutes and then never again.

E.T. is tricky and gets frustrating, but I never thought it sucked. Firefly is so bad it’s kind of hilarious.

I had successfully repressed my memory of owning a cart of Firefly back in my young second-hand-Atari days. No manuals, of course, just endless repetition of nonsense with no sense of achievement or progress, and that background 'music'... just... puts me right back there. Dang... At least now I know why I never got anywhere in that game. :P

Wow. I just tried Skeet Shoot. I thought maybe it was a paddle game. It's not. Oh my, this is awful! Thanks for the tip.

The horrible sound of Firefly almost caused me to smash the iPad I was viewing this great series of videos on. I have been fascinated with the whole E.T. animosity when I first heard about the landfill on the World Wide Web. Owning E.T. as a kid but missing out on the “worst video game” discussion, I was surprised to hear all the back lash to a game I thought was fine. I do take into consideration the timing and the expectation of E.T. putting more pressure on this game to succeed.

It was quite an existential dilemma I had as to whether to play the sound or not.

"Worse than E.T.?" I don't even need to watch to know the answer is yes. (I played Starfox as a kid with my friend. We never had fun with it, although we tried many times to try and figure it out)

Its quite distracting when the theme song got a good mic while the video itself sounds like a ww2 intercom

There IS a bit more to Star Fox then you show: when you do enter the 'orange atmosphere' it appears to be more like landing as your sprite changes and looks like a landing ship that dosen't move. The alien UFO will hover over you and bomb you if you havent killed it before landing. I am guessing the original design had 'you' leaving the ship to go grab the crystals but was as unfinished as the buggy audio and turned into the excuse in the manual. Still a godawful game and FAR worse then E.T.

If only they put as much effort into making the games as they did into writing the "lore", they probably would have ended up with a better game 😅

The Tee Eye Ay Chip. NOT the "Tee uh" chip. It is not an acronym. As someone who actually corresponded with the late Kevin Oleniacz, his last name is pronounced "Oh Lenn Its." I asked him once & he wrote back with that explanation. I had quite a few nice letter exchanges before his passing - he was instrumental in helping me acquire game instruction booklets for games I had, mostly B&W photocopied stuff & I sent him quite a bunch as well.

so ... 2 bad versions of a Shoot'em Up & a bad Defender wannabe. no wonder the Crash happened, amazing Atari was the only survivor. (no doubt Nintendo were control freaks after this)

“2600” in the thumbnail woulda been a timesaver, given the title doesn’t show it until you’re already at the video...

You mean 2600 instead of VCS? Fixed. Sorry, I come from the days when the VCS was the 2600 before it was the 2600!

Don’t say North American Video Crash, North America is Canada, the US and Mexico. It appears that the reach of the crash within Canada was rather inconsistent, some say it happened just like in the US and some say it didn’t. For Mexico, on the other hand, the crash actually thrusted the video game console market to a craze and the arcades kept thriving as if nothing had happened because nothing had happened there. Believe me, I was there. It was the American Video Game Crash, it was so localized that no other country, not even the ones the US shares borders with, experience it. Don’t take me wrong, though, the crash affected the industry worldwide but not in the way Americans tend to believe.

Great info! Some day I might just need to just call it "Steve's video game crash" and call it a day.
