Helix for me! The tunability capabilities for each pedal, the selection of pedals, the selection of amps, speakers, type distance and selection of micing and overall sound and tones and continuing updates for the Helix make it a no brainer #1. With the newest 3.5 update included it's gotten even better sounding using less DSP than before.

Thanks for such an in-depth video. All your points are valid...from experience! I was a strict boutique tube amp guy with pedalboard. I tried the Fractal FM3 and could not believe how good it sounded and felt. But, the CPU limitations were a problem. I decided to try a Helix and sent it right back. The tone was not the same as the Fractal and even though it's a true "all-in-one", I didn't like the feel of the expression pedal and I was stuck with it. So back to FM3 I went. Meanwhile, I put my name on the list for an FM9. A year later, I'm still waiting. So I bit the bullet and bought a AXE-FX III and FC12. Love it! I'm still very interested in the FM9 when ever I get the invite to buy one. It will be nice to lose carrying around the 3-space rack my AXE-FX is in. I recently heard a demo of a Helix vs. FM9 playing a U2 song. The Helix was thin with some fizz on in. The fractal had a nice organic fat Vox tone with out the extra fizz.

I have the RP-1 c1993 but its menus not working right anymore, I like the idea of taking captures of every piece of gear I encounter, however I do not have any desire to be dealing with a "RACK" anything. With the concensus that nothing sounds as good as fractal I feel like I have to choose between captures or better sounding effects. Fm9 vs QC seems like a tough choice to me.

THIS VIDEO IS SOOOOOO GOOD!!!!! So many times, Ive wondered about which way to go when the time does come for me to purchase one. I almost always lean towards the Helix but, Axe FX and Kemper and QC are also all very appealing for multiple reasons. About a year ago, I was conversing with a friend specifically about the Helix & the Kemper.......aged old question......Which is "better"? His response was, "I can do a world tour with either one". I think that idea goes across the board for the modelers mentioned here. Thanks Brian & Bradford! You guys ROCK!!!!!!

Helix for me! I just got my second one after trying a pedalboard with a stomp. I loved the stomp + pedalboard but the cost of trying to get the same pedals/tones out of something the same size or smaller than the Helix is pretty much impossible!

Hello, everyone, I've been following your channel for quite a while. From time to time I have to look at something twice because the English is sometimes too fast. It's one of the best videos I've seen on the subject. This is exactly the dilemma I stand in. I have to preface that I am an absolute hobby and should practice more. But the technique is also fun ;) I currently have an FM3 and a Helix Floor to try. Both cannot and should not stay because it is too expensive. I had promised a lot from the FM3 and was looking forward to it. However, I actually feel the way you describe some things. The fractal literally "overwhelms" you with the amount of settings, I don't even know what many of them are is meant. The amount of amps and cabs is just heavy. Especially with the cabs, the designations regarding which microphone / where removed, phew. You don't know what to choose. At least I had hoped that when you select an amp, the right cab would be selected. Unfortunately not power it all the harder. The editor is, at least in terms of operation, much better than doing this on the device. I find that really very very fiddly and many things are shown too small on the display. You feel like stepping around the three foot switches a lot, sometimes hold them down, sometimes hold them down .... So far, I have recognized the following advantages for myself personally with the Helix, especially the fact that I do not come from this deep subject. all-in-one device; Everything is there, including more footswitches that assign whether to select an effect or another preset simplified. Bigger and heavier, of course. Personally, I find Snapshots better than Scenes to be able to switch parameters more easily. The operation on the device is simply so easy and clear. I still have the there a simple preset created, but just try it and the whole thing is super easy to understand. Display is super clear. The community is just huge, which is a huge advantage. In addition, the product family Helix, Nativ and Co. I can't really judge everything else, but I found the video just great. Whether I make the right decision FM3 or Helix ?!? Oh dear, but I think I'm going with the helix. maybe another trip to the FM9 in a while. I also found the quadcortex very interesting, but without desktop software (announced a long time ago) it's ios for me whether touch or not an absolute exclusion criterion. I don't want to keep standing around on the floor in the Hovvy room or the foot pedals operate manually on the desk. Find the device just too "young". "Good advice is expensive ;(" Greetings from Germany

Personally and after owning several models from each the three kings…Kemper Stage/Toaster/Rack, Fractal AX8/FM3 and L6 HD500/Helix I’ve found exactly what I was looking for from these type of devices with the Quad Cortex “capture” feature. QC captures are so authentic. I use a Dunlop mini volume/expression pedal to allow assigning dual-functionality; going between volume and expression assignments per preset via one tap on a QC footswitch. I had a huge pedalboard (21 total) built around three Kingsley tube preamps and an array of top-shelf pedals e.g. Strymon, Eventide, Analogman, Klon etc… After capturing the Kingsley preamps I’ve been able to use the QC exclusively. There really are no wrong answers between the modelers, it’s just a matter of personnel preference;)

Here's a question that I haven't seen addressed anywhere online. It's probably because these modeling units are used as all-in-ones much of the time. Let me set it up this way: I've seen many times, especially with the Kemper, that they are only used as an amp model and all the effects are in front run through pedals. With this in mind, if you're after the VOX / Matchless or Fender Deluxe sound, do the UA Ruby and Dream pedals do a better job of modeling those amps? I hope that question makes sense.

just got a gt1000 core the sounds are amazing , its weird though how different it is then my pod go, got it for 500 bucks half the price as the helix lt so couldn't pass it up. boss is very menu driven but like you guys have said spend a little time with it and you can make changes fast. the greatest thing though is that you can plug this into the input of my orange amp and sounds great with modeling on, which the pod go can not do at all. do miss snap shots but the core does do it sort of but the power this thing has is amazing and doesn't give you option overloud. i think it has made me use the product better bc i have to dial the sound i want no depend on other people to make presets or wait till line6 does an update for new amps to be released. sorry for my long gabbing but, hope to see you guys give boss a chance to the world think you might like them

The GT1000 is cool, but it is No Helix. Now that I've learned the Helix. The GT1000 is for small gigs. The other gigs I will use the Helix 3.5 or my Headrush.2.5. Both have Acoustic modeling on them and more/better amp updates..

It’s helix all the way for me. All of the modelers have enough for any player but I have other line 6 gear I love like the line 6 DT 50 in both the head and the 212 combo. I use helix native in my computer. Makes no sense to crave others that I can’t afford. Saying this I’m di]ure I’d love the Kemper and others.

I went through them in order and have finally settled on the Quad Cortex. I loved my Kemper but I never got out of it what I wanted. Helix LT was so convenient and easy to use but never got there. With the FM3 I was really sad. It sounded great through headphones but in my 30 day trial I was not able to get the kind of sound that I wanted so I sent it back. And after some thought I gave the QC a shot. And well, for me at least it is case closed. I only had It for 2 days and within an hour I was at the point that I never reached with any of the other units. That being said: - Helix, imo, best interface and editor - Kemper, imo, most "flair" --> I SO wish I would have been able to get what I wanted out of it - Fractal, most powerful in terms of routing The wall plug of the QC is atrocious. There is still no desktop editor. There are some serious functions missing like a hybrid mode with 4 scenes and 4 stomps. It boggles my mind that that is not yet a possibility on the QC. But in terms of sound for me it's definitely the one. And that is the one point where I don't want to make any compromises.

I've been using Helix Floor for last 6 years and I love it but... Recently I watched fractal demo where dry ac30 sound was almost 3d and it was on phone speaker. I cannot afford both but I'm thinking of making the transition to FM9 just to check if it's worth the hype - I suspect it is. I'm a bit nervous about the UI as the Helix took me a bit to learn and it seems to be significantly easier to maintain. Well - if you don't try you'll never know. 🥳🤷‍♂️

We realize that there are a lot more options on the market. But at some point it just becomes too time (and money) intensive to buy and make content on literally every product option. We mostly buy these units with our own money, and gear content is only part of what we do on the channel, so we try to find a balance between it all. We choose to make content and patches for the units that we think have the widest usage in the market, and the ones we have the most experience and expertise with. At the end of the day, you can get great tone from almost any modern digital solution. If it works for you and you love the way it sounds, the it’s the right choice.

I hated modelers. My first exposure to a modeler that actual responded to the volume knob and picking dynamics was actually Boss. Just a simple IR-200 on a pedalboard. Helix is horrible at dynamics and volume roll off to clean up the tone. Also, every guitar sounds the same through it. The uniqueness of the guitar gets lost. Finally landed on Fractal and haven’t looked back. Especially after the latest firmware. The feel, the responsiveness, the way each guitar sounds when plugged in. All very much like playing through a real tube amp!

We think so (using Captures). The availability of good captures is limited though - at least until the marketplace opens. The captures we’ve made sound and respond exactly like the amp(s). Check out this video for more: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6e8c6WtiMuHd7c Going stock amp models (not captures in QC) I’d have to give the nod to Fractal.

Had an American laughing at me an telling me how stupid I was for saying that the whole unit would costs over $7,000 dollars which it actually does. Oh well. I should also add of right now - 13 sept 2023 - that the Axe FX III is out of stock. The FM9 costs $7,290 so over $2,000 more than the Axe FX III.
