Looking back, most of my reads were just disappointing. The absolute worst book I read was beauty and the Baller by ilsa madden-mills. I cringe just thinking about it, honestly.

I love that you're not holding back when you dislike books! One day I'll try the Bone Season because people love that series... but I'll wait a little longer. :D I had 4 bad books in 89 last year, which I think is quite good. One of those was even a DNF from 2021 that I gave a second chance for a readathon prompt, so I only read the last 3rd of it.

I also hated the Bone Season! I couldn't even get through the first few chapters

I have to admit, Ice Planet Barbarians is my comfort read, even though the writing style is frankly awful, but I still enjoy the series

That’s so valid. It’s kinda mindless in a fun way even though it’s bad.

Bone Season is the last book I read from Samantha Shannon after reading and rereading Priory of the Orange Tree. And I completly agree with you. On top of just being bad Bone Season was also pretty boring. But I am really excited for the new Priory book next month because with how good the first one was I doubt I won't love it.

Huge agree on the Bone Season. I read it so long ago but I still remember how deeply disappointed I was. That one was a huge miss for me on every single level. I know people love Priory of the Orange Tree but I just don't think Samantha Shannon and I are compatible in the slightest so she's a never again author for me.

I hated Priory, and it was a real disappointment since I was SO excited to read it and was sure I would love it. Hard agree on Shannon just not being compatible with me personally. It just....consistently fell short of actually hitting any of the notes it should have hit with ease, the writing was bland and had this awful by rote pacing to it, the main romance was unseasoned chicken, and the worldbuilding was as lacklustre as the last season of stranger things worldbuilding.

@@zoerice4227 When Priory came out and people were raving about it for a hot minute I was like "maybe... I mean, Bone Season was her first book and it was so long ago maybe she's improved..." and then someone said they were having to flip to the glossary in the back all the time and I had instant flashbacks of all of her tables and glossary terms and eternally noped out of Shannon's books from that moment on lol

Thank you for reassuring me in my decision to DNF The Bone Season.

I had the slightest interest in Bone Season but your review of it squashed that. Plus I DNFed Priory, which everyone says is better, so probably just not the author for me.

I was so ready to love These Violent Delights but it also reallyyyyy didn’t work for me. It could t keep my attention for more than 5 minutes… I’ve only read Darkfever by Moning and it was the fun level of trashy for me, but I never continued. Maybe that was for the best 😂

Hahaha Ice Planet Barbarians! I binge read the first seven books in December so I guess that means I like the series, but I think I enjoy them because any critical thought goes out the window because it’s all so ridiculous. I can’t take it seriously, but I do like the series and will probably read them all lol. I totally get why it made your list though 😂

These violent delights was soooo bad m. The writing style was bad the story boring and the characters vland and stereotypical. Just no, it was a dnf for me.

So glad to see Bloodfever on this list haha. As an Irish person, I just remember feeling so offended by everything the author tried to do with Irish culture in this series, it was so bad.

Felt kind of meh about These Violent Delights as well. I did end up reading the second book though, because I wanted to know what happend to Benedict and Marshall since they were the only characters I actually liked. Could not have cared less about Roma and Juliet

I loved These Violent Delights and started 2022 with These Violent Ends. Book 2 felt just like a copy paste of book one with very little difference in plot from the first book and somehow even LESS happened in the second book🥲
