Worst driver ever taking french around japan/ Tama Lake / Mt Fuji ( but it took 4h )

It's been three years since I drove in Japan, but I really wanted to show my friends around Japan!
This time we went to Lake Tama and Mt Fuji
Lake Tama took less than an hour to get there, but Mt Fuji took 4 hours.　Would it have been better to take the train?　I still don't know the answer.
