I can completely empathize. I'm a singer and once performed a 10 song set (with several instrumentalists and backup singers) only to have people walk right in front of us with plates of food, and many others carrying on conversations at their tables as though we were background music instead of what the organizers meant to be a main event. It was even more embarrassing b/c probably 25 members of my extended family showed up only to watch me... bomb _so_ bad :(

Well, maybe that's even worse. Because when you do bad, forget your lines or whatever, you can only blame yourself and you can do better next time, but when you do well and you think you did well and you still fail, you really start to doubt youself and your whole act and that's bad.
