I think possibly part of the problem is your hang height ..I think you lowered your HP by several inches so that should help in giving you a bit better control.. I also try to wait until Im in ground effect before I transition to an upright position.. ( personal preference) Hope this helps

Thank you. I fully agree with your point. I need to lower my hanging height.

4:40 you started pushing out, it was over after that. Come in with more speed, bleed off excess while in ground effect. It will give you more time to feel the glider and when its time to flare.

Thank you for the comment. Sure. I need to keep higher speed till the ground effect zone for flare...

Swinging your legs forwards like that changes your CG . Cross your legs and let them hang relaxed . Use your hips weight to weight shift / steer

There was an article I read years ago called “kick the keel” which said that pushing your legs back helps. It worked for me back then.

Maybe add some wind flags to your possible landing sites. And buy some more hang gliders!

Downwind landing....

I got that sense the first time I watched it because ground speed seemed fast but that could have been the thinner air. That wing drop happens to me a lot in a nice headwind. It’s easy to get into a steady turn in the upright position and not have enough leverage or time to fix it especially in that glider.

Im no expert however i think if you prepped earlier , you would of had more time to get full control of the glider for landing . I too use to leave things to the last minute till I was taught to get to uprights earlier , nose into wind sooner , this gives more time to iron out little things like wing level , speed , harness slider in upright position etc , by time I was in ground effect , it was just a matter of executing the flare . Anyhoo , glad you're ok , hope no damage was done to you , Or your kite . cheers

Your offsetting the cg of the glider when you transition hanging from your hang loop to your hands. Don’t. ……Your hands should not be pulling down to bring the glider down. Instead you should be pulling the base tube backward so your body moves forward and loads the nose with your weight. As you approach the ground ease out to round out your approach until there is no tension in the base tube. Only then start moving your hands upwards on the downtubes. Just prior to sliding your hands your glider is burning off energy flying parallel to the ground in ground effect. When you move your hands upwards don’t: let go, lurch your hands in the air upwards and then grab,…..instead you slide your hands up the down tubes. Your hands should go no higher up the down tubes then your ear height before your final flare. If you drop a wing, that means the wing stalled before you were able to flare. At higher elevations the air is thinner so your ground speed will be likely bevfaster then your are use too. Do not by the ground speed but by your glider ability to fly to inform yourself when to flare. Practice these skills on a bunny hill with training glider with big wheels instead of damaging your intermediate/advance wing.

Thank you. Good suggestion. The glider nose tends to move up during transition from base bar to downtube. It might be caused because my hanging point is too high and hanging point of the harness rail didn't shift smoothly since the pitch adjustment rope was stuck.

Wow well said!

I think it is just less leverage when upright plus more drag so more rapid deceleration and the drag pulls the body back makes the wing pitch up even more. Just a lot of forces working toward slower flight in upright position. Fear and culture tell us to prepare early but the way to do that safely isn’t to transition early but to approach with enough speed to keep wings level and use the extra efficient ground effect to calm down and listen to the glider with your fingers to nicely time the transition to upright and then the flair right after.

I’m still fighting the fear of getting this right even though I landed like this as a beginner for the first year or so even with a single suspension harness. Over the years I let fear and culture get to me and now I have a bad habit to break.

It would be better to see the footage from your rear camera, but from this camera it appears that when you transitioned to the down tubes you popped and held your nose up, entered a slight roll to your right, and never made any compensating inputs. Landing directly into the wind is less important than actively maintaining a balanced wing, and a great way to do that is to commit yourself to always keep your eyes on course especially when a wing gets lifted. If you allow your eyes to be pulled away from the course heading to which you initially committed yourself the inputs you will need to keep the glider balanced will be slower and less accurate.

I flew hang gliders for avidly for 10 years before I got into homebuilt airplanes and learned how to REALLY spend money. When landing I only went for the downtubes just before the flare. In many hundreds of landings I only fell down 3 times.
