On the solar panel thing, it's so true. Here in Texas the rates are so low (12 cents per Kwh for me) that the cost of the solar panels and the fees are more than the electric bill. My electric bill for an 1860 square foot home is only $130 a month on average. And that is with AC/Heat on year-round and everything in the house is electric, no gas.

If you’re going to spend $250 on a house, why choose a “Hardy” home? Spend a few more $ down and move into the more mature neighborhoods and get more bang for your buck that have brick all around. The Hardy siding screams “cheap” and those builders did a rush job on those homes.
