I once heard an explanation as of how telephone companies were able to save costs tremendously by compressing the sound on one call to like 1/4 and then stack 4 calls together then uncompressed the needed quarter at the other end. Not a huge deal of quality loss for a phone convo but hell for something like music. Which is why any waiting music is always a bit shit on phone... Now you too are cursed with this knowledge.
