Not to mention the environmental conditions you would be fighting in depending on where you are fighting at. From the muddy and sometimes flooded trenches of the western front where you might fall victim to trench foot and other diseases then actually combat while also having to deal with rats that would attack you in your sleep if you even got any cause of enemy artillery bombardment. The often overlooked and underrated mountain warfare that happened in the European Alps where soldiers have to climb up inhospitable mountains and fight each other in while risking avalanches that the enemy would purposely caused to happened. The eastern front being the eastern front. The hot temps in Africa and the Middle East. To even fighting in the Pacific Islands. It truly was a nightmare no matter where you fought at.

Funny thing is when he had asthma in the 60s he could be treated easily if he moved to the city with his son (my grandfather) but he hated the government so much he stayed on his farm 😂. He died in 1966 I think on his farm with a horse that no one could tame (A mustang that launch every single person in the village from its seat). Seems weirdly romantic as my great grandfather didn’t give a f what others think. The only person he truly liked was my dad, so when someone in the village needed something they would send my dad because great grandpa was REALLY big and tall for that time and had a rough character. Just a correction about the Kamikaze Pilots; Most pilots ordered to Kamikaze during WWII were usually Aces. Sometimes normal pilots would do it if they ran out of ammunition or if directly ordered to (though that was few and far between). The only reason pilots did it was both because they were (usually) ordered to or because they thought it would help Japan win, which given they were ultranationalist, was a pleasing thought, for lack of a better word.

Servitude was widespread in Greek antiquity. Athens alone was home to an estimated 60,000-80,000 slaves during the fifth and fourth centuries BC, with each household having an average of three or four enslaved people attached to it. Athenian slaves tended to enjoy more freedom than those elsewhere. Greek debt slaves were common. Others were taken from regions such as Thrace, Anatolia, Macedonia, Syria, Illyria, and Ethiopia.

Fun fact (maybe not that fun), the Black Plauge basically ended feudalism in Europe forever. As the plague reaked havoc on Europe for 7 consecutive years, everyone around them saw most of the people in their lives die gruesome deaths, and had became desensitized to the idea of death as a whole. It is also worth mentioning that the vast majority of the people that died from the plague were peasant workers, aka serfs, for nobles or land owners. Given that over half of the surfs who worked for their lords died pretty much overnight, the plague absolutely devastated the entire economy, but surprisingly lead to higher paying jobs for many of these former surfs, since there were so many job openings because of the, you know what. For once in their bloodlines lives, these peasants were finally able to own their own land and live according to their reasonably high new wages, and once they got that sweet taste of freedom, they would never go back to their old life of poverty and servitude. After the plague pretty much ended, all of these former lords wanted all of their free labor back, and kings all across Europe declared that these surfs must return to their former lords; but all of those free surfs said "nah, fuck that". As a result, thousands of former surfs would be killed protesting their newfound freedom, and the massive instability caused by years of the constant rioting of former surfs essentially thanos snapped Feudalism out of existence. Y'all have no idea just how much the Black Plague truly changed everything; art, architecture, war, the monarchy, paper, science, medicine, CHRISTIANITY. Those truly were some of the most influential 7 years of the entire world.

@Zackadeles14 күн бұрын
@eliza1826 I never said they were wonderful. I just said that people were able to make a decent living once many people started making significantly higher wages. I am also aware that the Europeans borrowed most of their significant inventions and philosophies, as I never claimed that any of these significant advances were solely from Europe. Besides, the Black death didn't just affect Europe. Sure, Europe was certainly the most affected by the black plague, but the black plague was still devastating for many parts of northern Africa (or at least around trade routes), the middle east, and especially East Asia, which is where the fleas that spread the disease likely came from in the first place. Also I never claimed Christianity to be European either, as a Christian myself it would be absolutely preposterous to say such a thing, I'm just saying that Christianity became a much more predominant and influential religion than it had been in Europe up to that point.

Erm actually people in the Middle Ages lived in there 60s and the reason why we think they lived till there 20s or 30s because the child mortality rate was very high and kids would die at 0 or 1 and that’s what messed up the average age
