In my opinion, WWI would be the worst war to fight in. You would be commanded to basically commit suicide so that your country could gain a few feet of territory. Absolute nightmare.

Not to mention the environmental conditions you would be fighting in depending on where you are fighting at. From the muddy and sometimes flooded trenches of the western front where you might fall victim to trench foot and other diseases then actually combat while also having to deal with rats that would attack you in your sleep if you even got any cause of enemy artillery bombardment. The often overlooked and underrated mountain warfare that happened in the European Alps where soldiers have to climb up inhospitable mountains and fight each other in while risking avalanches that the enemy would purposely caused to happened. The eastern front being the eastern front. The hot temps in Africa and the Middle East. To even fighting in the Pacific Islands. It truly was a nightmare no matter where you fought at.

our hunting strategy was to exhaust them first so we could do it alone shockingly although it was exceedingly rare. The way we locomote is an example of this, when we run most of the work is done by gravity compared to 4 legged animals and on top of this our lack of hair and excess sweat glands made us really persistant hunters which was and still is very effective against herbivores today

Nah living in the first 50 years of the 1900's in America would suck. You are born in 1890 You join the army during ww1 because of the draft You are either killed or live with survivor's guilt. Your life is looking great with the roaring 20's you probably have some kids. Then the great depressions hits. Then ww2 helps the economy, but then your kids are drafted. One gets killed by sniper, another killed by an artillery shell, but your third child survives. He continues to serve in the army, but his is killed by a 7.62x54R from a mosin. And you die in your 60's from lung cancer (you were a smoker)

My grandpa served in the Vietnam war, from 1966 to1973 he was a part of the 101st airborne division and a few other divisions, he jumped out of planes and rode in helicopters, and called in airstrikes, his division was ambushed multiple times with every time him almost getting killed untill 1973 when a grenade exploded right beside him he passed out and described his experience saying " I was in a dark tunnel and at the end was a bright light as I started to head closer to the light I got pulled back and then I woke up" after my grandpa was sent home people mistreated him calling him a baby killer and a rapist despite his being innocent, years after I met my grandpa and talked about his time in Vietnam, he don't seem affected by the Vietnam war anymore but I know it still haunts him.

Worst time to be alive would have to be the 14th century (1300s) in Europe, first from 1315-1317 a famine killed 10% of Europe’s population, then a series of wars devastated the region in the 1320s and 1330s, then the Black Death which killed half of the known worlds population. The closest thing to a irl thanos snap.

Well yes, but also no. At that time, it was thought that the plague was transmitted through the air, so plague doctors put fragrant flowers in their beaks and then lit them on fire, (That's why you could tell that the plague doctors were coming by the smell that spread through the streets), But today we know that fleas are to blame, which did not get through the very tight coats covered with extra oil that doctors wore. You could say that they created a solution to something that didn't exist, unaware of you protecting themselfs from something they didn't know existed.

My great grandfather fought in WWI, my dad said he was really tough and strong. Funny thing is when he had asthma in the 60s he could be treated easily if he moved to the city with his son (my grandfather) but he hated the government so much he stayed on his farm 😂. He died in 1966 I think on his farm with a horse that no one could tame (A mustang that launch every single person in the village from its seat). Seems weirdly romantic as my great grandfather didn’t give a f what others think. The only person he truly liked was my dad, so when someone in the village needed something they would send my dad because great grandpa was REALLY big and tall for that time and had a rough character. I don’t know if anything I wrote is comprehensible because I’m sick and English is my second language.

Just a correction about the Kamikaze Pilots; Most pilots ordered to Kamikaze during WWII were usually Aces. Sometimes normal pilots would do it if they ran out of ammunition or if directly ordered to (though that was few and far between). The only reason pilots did it was both because they were (usually) ordered to or because they thought it would help Japan win, which given they were ultranationalist, was a pleasing thought, for lack of a better word.

That just American slavery but there was other type of slavery and in many other countries, Ptolemaic Egypt (305 BC-30 BC) used both land and sea routes to bring in slaves. Servitude was widespread in Greek antiquity. Athens alone was home to an estimated 60,000-80,000 slaves during the fifth and fourth centuries BC, with each household having an average of three or four enslaved people attached to it. Athenian slaves tended to enjoy more freedom than those elsewhere. Greek debt slaves were common. Others were taken from regions such as Thrace, Anatolia, Macedonia, Syria, Illyria, and Ethiopia.

Fun fact (maybe not that fun), the Black Plauge basically ended feudalism in Europe forever. As the plague reaked havoc on Europe for 7 consecutive years, everyone around them saw most of the people in their lives die gruesome deaths, and had became desensitized to the idea of death as a whole. It is also worth mentioning that the vast majority of the people that died from the plague were peasant workers, aka serfs, for nobles or land owners. Given that over half of the surfs who worked for their lords died pretty much overnight, the plague absolutely devastated the entire economy, but surprisingly lead to higher paying jobs for many of these former surfs, since there were so many job openings because of the, you know what. For once in their bloodlines lives, these peasants were finally able to own their own land and live according to their reasonably high new wages, and once they got that sweet taste of freedom, they would never go back to their old life of poverty and servitude. After the plague pretty much ended, all of these former lords wanted all of their free labor back, and kings all across Europe declared that these surfs must return to their former lords; but all of those free surfs said "nah, fuck that". As a result, thousands of former surfs would be killed protesting their newfound freedom, and the massive instability caused by years of the constant rioting of former surfs essentially thanos snapped Feudalism out of existence. Y'all have no idea just how much the Black Plague truly changed everything; art, architecture, war, the monarchy, paper, science, medicine, CHRISTIANITY. Those truly were some of the most influential 7 years of the entire world.

@eliza1826 I never said they were wonderful. I just said that people were able to make a decent living once many people started making significantly higher wages. I am also aware that the Europeans borrowed most of their significant inventions and philosophies, as I never claimed that any of these significant advances were solely from Europe. Besides, the Black death didn't just affect Europe. Sure, Europe was certainly the most affected by the black plague, but the black plague was still devastating for many parts of northern Africa (or at least around trade routes), the middle east, and especially East Asia, which is where the fleas that spread the disease likely came from in the first place. Also I never claimed Christianity to be European either, as a Christian myself it would be absolutely preposterous to say such a thing, I'm just saying that Christianity became a much more predominant and influential religion than it had been in Europe up to that point.

Honestly, I think theres a silver lining living in these times - people had to communicate and work together to survive, which means more friendships and relationships were made. Unlike today where people are so comfortably isolated and everyone seems to hate everyone else for every little thing. There are so many depressing/lonely/suicidal/men vs women videos and forums out there now that it makes me realize that being in a more comfortable society doesnt necessarily mean its a better society.

2:24 actually, the normal cave man lived to their 60’s. It’s just that a lot of people died at birth. So it brought the average down by like 40 years because so many people died before their 1st birthday. So the average life span was 20-25 years. But most people who lived past their 1st birthday mostly likely lived to their 60-70’s

Lowkey fuck being a medieval knight, them elite mfs ran into battle after training their whole lives and could get a limb severed in one hit. At least they had shields

The life of the knights was actually not that great. The truth is that many of them often worked in the fields alongside others during the administration of their estates. They had no choice but to keep their granaries full.

Erm actually people in the Middle Ages lived in there 60s and the reason why we think they lived till there 20s or 30s because the child mortality rate was very high and kids would die at 0 or 1 and that’s what messed up the average age
