Quick sidenote: I should've been more clear about this in the video as some people, rightfully so, commented that testing each car extensively on one stage in Germany and one in Spain is not representative of a competitive 12 stage event. I do want to mention that I have atleast 50 hours of competitive experience with each of the R5 cars, including multiple day events and championships. With some even over 100 hours.

Well on the same token tarmac is the wild card, if you will, for rally - to really test a car's grip, put it on tarmac and drive it in anger. If you can control the backend on tarmac, you can control the backend on gravel, just have to account for the front tyres pulling you through a power slide more (though snow is a different monster altogether). Having said that it takes literally hundreds of starts to really get to know the car and its limits and get in hairy situations like the flowing series of turns in Spain to see what it can do. I don't see anything wrong with the way you did your testing, but for a future installment I would personally like to pick one place for each kind of variable with regards to surface and weather at a time, record data, then swap to the next.

This is great work! I've been working on my own analysis too, using data logging to see if there's a way to compare car performance across classes. Have you had any success with 'tuning out' some of the drawbacks of each car, or do you generally like to stick with stock setups on these?
@SimsRacingDesign3 жыл бұрын
I haven't had the success doing that myself as my knowledge of setups is rather basic. Luckily for me, EXR Technical has fantastic setups that suite my driving style almost to a tee. He has been able to tune out the major drawbacks for each car in each location.

That video makes me want to play the game again . I’ve been playing WRC9 a lot recently . How about you ? Did you play WRC9?
@SimsRacingDesign3 жыл бұрын
I have played WRC9 recently but I can't find much enjoyment in most of what the game offers in terms of driving experience, unfortunately. WRC9 suffers from so many things including several technical issues. Driving the game with a steering wheel feels incredibly unnatural, even though the FFB and physics have been praised by so many people. It feels somewhat strange on tarmac and I feel that the car is completely disconnected from the road on loose surfaces. Most of the time I barely have any idea what the car or wheels are doing or how the car will react when I make a certain move. And that's something which is extremely important. I've played around with the settings to see if I could get that feeling right. As of right now, driving WRC9 never feels natural, intuitive or instinctive. I have no confidence driving the cars ingame. Combine that with the constant issues with the sound, low quality 3D modelling and the graphics issues with lighting, shadows and reflections... Well, that completely ruins my experience quite quickly. Stage layouts are fantastic though as I especially love the German vineyard stages.

@@SimsRacingDesign really strange . On Xbox series x, with a controller and all the assists off it runs like a dream . I find it much more fun to drive than DR 2.0 . It’s 120fps as well . Makes a big difference . Maybe it has something to do with the steering wheel integration. Who knows .
@SimsRacingDesign3 жыл бұрын
@@BalanceProper I heard from many people that playing WRC9 with a controller is more enjoyable than playing it with a steering wheel. It makes me wonder if the game/physics are developed originally to work with a controller and afterwards adjusted to work with a wheel. If that is the case, then that is a bit of a red flag in my book when it comes to developing a racing game that claims to be a simulation-like title.

@@SimsRacingDesign I agree with all of this. Tried a few times with wheel and really didn't like it (wrc9). Before I had a wheel I preferred wrc mostly but now I have wheel, I couldn't have sold wrc fast enough. I'm hoping wrc 10 is a better experience with a wheel

Thank you so much! In this game I struggle on tarmac so picked the Polo R5. What car would you say is better on gravel? And what is the best R2 car? I chose the Opel.
@SimsRacingDesign Жыл бұрын
On gravel it depends on the how technical de stages are. Personally I prefer the Fiesta R5 (early version) as its suspension is great. Easier to control and be quick consistently on any sort of gravel event. In the R2 class I've always found that the Fiesta was the quickest all-round.

I find it hard to believe that comparing the cars on just two stages from Germany and Spain will tell us which vehicle is best in a rally that incorporates all 12 from each location... it'll give you a good idea of which is best, sure, but 1 stage vs 12 isn't really the same criteria, is it?
@SimsRacingDesign3 жыл бұрын
Fair enough, you definitely have a point there. Maybe I should've been more clear on what my level of experience is within the competitive scene. I have been playing the game competitively at the top level for almost two years now and have driven each of the cars atleast 50 hours on long events or in high end competitions. Those two stages are mainly used to reach the cars' limits the quickest and to visually showcase some of the elements I discuss in the video when pushing the cars to their limits. For example, I use the footage of the same corner for multiple cars, showing how they might behave differently. I'm far from a mere rookie. 😅

@SimsRacingDesign3 жыл бұрын
On tarmac, the Mk.II is better in general. On gravel is where the Fiesta Mk.I shines though with its fantastic suspension and high speed stability/contolability. The Mk.II seems to lack that somehow.

@@donjuan3085 the reason I haven't made a ranked guide for the R5's on gravel because it depends on the location itself. The Mitsubishi R5 is below average on rallies like Finland but excels in Argentina because of its agility in those many very tight sections.

Sorry mate but I have to disagree. Yes, Polo feels very stable and it's probably the easiest R5 car to drive, but I think Fiesta MK2 is faster. It's harder to drive, it feels heavier and kinda understeery in comparison with Polo, but it's faster. Maybe due to more horsepower.
@SimsRacingDesign2 жыл бұрын
What you just summed up as drawbacks are the main reasons why I don't put the Fiesta R5 Mk.II at the top. This list is not just about which car is the fastest. It's about the car you can perform best in which also includes consistency in setting top times. Because of the less stable ride, you can't set as consistently quick stage times in the Fiesta.
@alextavoularis87612 жыл бұрын
@@SimsRacingDesign It depends on the driver. I, for example, am faster with Fiesta, although I think Polo is easier to handle. At the end of the day, this kind of things is a bit subjective. I know people who think that Delta S4 is awful haha. In contrast, I love the S4 and I believe that it's the best Group B car by FAR.
