Great video! I have similar setup but the seafrog for a6400. I have small scratches on the 8" dome but they are inside the dome, caused by those little anti fog sheets. is there a way to insert and attach them so they do not move around onto the dome yet still keep them being effective in absorbing moisture?
@Kaush12 сағат бұрын
Glad it was helpful! I kind of just wedge them into places around the camera where they don't move but it is also possible to buy small moisture-absorbing pads which you could tape in place I guess

@Kaush3 ай бұрын
Thank you! Glad you found the video helpful 🙌🏾 Depends on conditions really, but the biggest thing to change underwater is the white balance
@davidmaara3 ай бұрын
And how do you precisely adjust white balance underwater?

So you can take a white/grey slate with you and set it whilst underwater. Or you can use the back of someones air tank to set it as well

Fantastic video. I have a project coming up where I'll be shooting from a kayak for long periods of time. If I'm using this for filming above the water, will there be any visible reflections when pointing it towards the sun? I'm using this for both insurance that my camera wont fry if it falls overboard, as well as underwater shots. Any experience with shooting with a 24-70 in the housing, above the water? Thanks again!
@KaushАй бұрын
Glad it was helpful! I haven't used the 24-70 but the 28-70 is often my go to on land and underwater. I would say that if you are not using the dome, you should be fine using it above water without reflections as long as it doesn't get wet. Once the port has water on it, you will suffer from water marks on the port unless you have a towel to frequently dry it. This will be even worse if you have a dome on it, so that is something to think about. I would say that if you're filming above water, it might not be as clear/crispy with the housing on. Maybe polish the port just to make sure there is absolutely nothing on it.
@keith-knittelАй бұрын
@@Kaush I'll be using the flat port above water, so hopefully this will be less of an issue. Will keep a lot of lens cleaning cloths nearby in case water gets on the port - good call! Thank you and appreciate the insight!

I thought once you took off the vacuum the vacuum in the housing would be lost. At least that's what I saw in one of seafrog's videos. How do you make sure the housing is still vacuum after you take the device off?
@Kaush5 ай бұрын
@@cornmasterliao7080 yeah that is right, with this one you loose the vacuum once it’s taken off. So it’s more of a leak detection system before you get in the water.

What's your opinion on glass vs acrylic domes? Seafrogs offers both options.
@Kaush9 ай бұрын
I think if you can afford the glass, go for it. The acrylic is good but scratches much easier than the glass. I can't speak about image quality difference as I haven't tried the glass dome yet.

I’ve been following your socials with this housing for a while now as I was concerned about the low price. They gotta save money somewhere right? I shoot Fuji and I essentially only have two options, Ikelite or Seafrogs. Today I pulled the trigger on the Seafrogs housing as you seem to be getting on great with it. Only time will tell but thanks for the informative videos, informative review and sunning underwater shots!👍🏼
@Kaush4 ай бұрын
Let me know how you get on with it! The major difference in the price is because SeaFrogs are made with plastic and more expensive housings are made with more durable materials.

Great video mate, I am considering to purchase the housing to replace my current gear from RX100 to a A7Riii. Do you know what’s the deepest depth you took it. Thinking for some trips for hammerhead that may require higher depth range.
@Kaush8 ай бұрын
Thanks, hope it was helpful! The housings are proofed to 40m but from experience they buttons stop working from the pressure at about 36-38m. At that depth light is already an issue but sometimes hammers/threshers are deeper so it's up to you whether you think that will be enough.
@axelis66 Жыл бұрын
Thx for your feedback! I just got the v3 housing for my Sony A7III. Why creating vacuum before diving is safer? Doesn't it increase the pressure gradient/difference once in depth?
@Kaush Жыл бұрын
The vacuum just checks for any leaks in the housing. Seafrogs vacuum cannot be taken underwater and so there is big pressure difference.
@axelis66 Жыл бұрын
ok, thanks for your reply. I'm also doing the vacuum test before going diving. But as I remove the Seafrog vacuum thingy, I lose the vacuum but it's fine

@Kaush Жыл бұрын
Glad you found it helpful! Yes always remove the vacuum before diving 🙌🏾 I started off using the Samyang 14mm but these days I am experimenting with using the Sony 28-70mm at various different zoom lengths. The dome is really good for split shots and I have an 8inch dome which is the biggest that they currently offer.

Ah okay. I think of buying one for my A7IV but i have to check which lenses are compatible. Thinking of Tamron 17-28 or Sony 16-35 F4.

@@Sharcooon oh yeah those will both be good choices if they are compatible. All the Sea Frogs housings have a full list of which lenses are compatible so it's easy to choose.

How compatible are the lens ports with the lenses? Are there any considerations to make when buying a port for the lenses you use?
@Kaush Жыл бұрын
They have a comprehensive list of lens compatibility on the Sea Frogs website for each port and housing option thankfully, which makes choosing quite easy. Generally, you're going to want to use a long flat port for zoom lenses and wide angle with domes but there are exceptions.

Once you Vacuum the housing , do you leave the lighted ring on the housing when you take it diving? I think I heard somewhere that you could do that and it would turn red if the housing started to leak
@Kaush Жыл бұрын
No always take it off before getting in the water. The SeaFrogs vacuum isn't able to be taken underwater.
@oceanblueimaging Жыл бұрын
@@Kaush @larrycole 6576 - I have been using this housing for the last 2 years and I leave the vacuum attachment on. I vacuum it before the dive, close the cap (and make sure the indicator is green). To answer the other question - It does turn red if there is a pressure leak from inside the housing (which can happen sometimes at depth). But it is not an issue for me, the red light is not as much a worry as the beeping noise that will come if the housing starts to flood. Just the red on the indicator is not an sign of water leaking into the housing.
@Kaush Жыл бұрын
Yes for sure the main issue is when the moisture sensor on the inside starts beeping. It is just that the instructions say not to take the vacuum underwater which is why I have never taken it under with me but I know some people do and it hasn't been a problem for them.

Interesting stuff! I've been curious about something still fairly compact, but with more capabilities than a GoPro for mainly video.
@Kaush Жыл бұрын
They have some housings for the smaller cameras like the Sony A6400 and Olympus TG6 as well which are very compact and easy for travelling with. Even the GH5 housings are pretty compact and would be great for video.
@josephsee2425 Жыл бұрын
@@Kaush Yes I'm really familiar with he TG6, used it for a long time for macro video-it performs surprisingly well here though generally considered a photography camera compared to the GoPro. I think something a step up from that but not massive would be great...Gh5 is a good shoutout-was considering the fx30 for slow mo and bigger sensor. Do you do much over under videography or just photos?
@Kaush Жыл бұрын
Ah yes the TG-6 is so good for macro! But definitely better for stills than for video. The FX30 is a really good video camera as well and would be a good choice. I have done a bit of split-shot videography but it is so much harder than photography and usually a really large dome is required. Not to say that it can't be done given the right conditions as well.
@josephsee2425 Жыл бұрын
@@Kaush Thanks! Yeah currently I have a secondhand Zcam E2, my interest being 4k 120. However, it is just too darn expensive to house this camera. Slow mo also doesn't seem like it would be that crucial underwater? My main interest is freshwater and shallow things-I never got into diving.
@Kaush Жыл бұрын
Oh wow that's amazing! I was looking at the Zcams but you're right the housings are so expensive! Slo mo can be incredibly useful and cool underwater depending on the subject. Fast moving things like dolphins can be amazing with slo mo but it really depends on what you're shooting.

Really good video bro thanks for your feedback. I remember watching your first video talking about it and I even left a comment talking about my actual set up which was a blackmagic 6k with nauticam and now I’m considering building my second rig for photos but I’m not whiling to spent another 20k in one rig so I have the option of going canon R5C or Sony A7IV. Unfortunately seafrog don’t have a canon R5C housing so I have to go with the Sony one.

Thanks so much for your support! The A7IV is a really good camera though and I'm sure it will make a great second rig 🙌🏾 Especially if you already have Nautical for your primary set up, having a Sea Frogs for the second one makes such a huge difference in cost - so much more affordable!
