I've installed hundreds if not a thousand of these NS100 drives (anywhere from 128GB to 1TB) into my clients' older laptops and desktops as well as into retro gaming PC's, and these have become my go-to budget drive due to actually having a brand name, being faster than comparable Silicon Power and PNY drives, and having (thus far for me anyways) had only 1 failed drive.

Agree very hand in older PC / Laptops where a M2 slot is not available and due to often or not PC Hardware limitations a PC-E M2 card cannot be used / recognized probably by Bios & OS like Windows 10/11 without boot up hiccups and no shows

Problem is motherboards generally only have 2-3 m.2 slots, but can easily have 4+ more sata so this kind of thing is good for media storage. Sata is still more responsive than usb. Apparently Lexar is just Longsys from China now.
@WootDini
@WootDini Жыл бұрын
Heya :) Correct but most CPUs can only handle one on the PCIe lanes and then defaults to South bridge. And yea lexar is owned by a company that owns longsys. But I have seen some really good things in the works. Let's see what happens :)

I bought the Lexar NQ100 SSD and used it for a year. I was a bit disappointed with this brand, as it is not recommended for running heavy tasks or for daily gaming. The write endurance has decreased, the file system has been corrupted several times, and the performance is noticeably slower; it used to be faster. It is only suitable for storing heavy data, such as photos, music, movies, and backups, but I would not recommend it for more intensive use.

Thanks for the feedback :) Yes it all goes to the quality of the silicon. Worst part of reviewing is you can't test things for long, so feedback like this is really good. Thank you

Lexar brand is good or bad ?
@WootDini

It's not bad at all :) Most brands are not the manufacturers of the product. But you can find cheaper if you look for the same product

Looking at this since this is in my PC, only been a month but its been fine. The M.2 in wifes PC is about 3.5X faster.
@WootDini
@WootDini 8 ай бұрын
Yea it will be. SATA is not the fastest interface. It's good for mass storage if you get a cheap enough drive, but always use nvme if there is a choice

@@WootDinimy motherboard has a m.2 slot but in a horrible location as it’s right under the gpu so I’m concerned about the heat. This was a prebuilt and I still feel like sata is a fast enough drive, but these companies making these prebuilt pc’s when the can save $30/$40 they go for it. My case has excellent airflow though as the cpu is 29/30c at idle, pretty sure I’ll add a m.2 when I need more storage.

why are 2.5 sata ssd prices are still so close to nvme gen 4 prices ??
@WootDini
@WootDini 23 күн бұрын
@@Tantemify best answer: because they can. Thing is it will be more expensive at some point. Think of them as cakes. One is expensive materials and one is cheap materials (crap chocolate etc). It still takes the cook the same time to make. Horrible analogy sorry. But I'm sure you understand the point

@WootDini

Heya. It will work for gaming yea. Wont be the fastest but no SATA is going to be faster as it's maxed on read and write. The only improvement is to get something with dram cache like Samsung 870 Evo

@@WootDini well, that laptop came with an HDD back in 2019 and a vacant M.2 slot. I immediately cloned the contents of the HDD (which held the OS) to an M.2 SSD (which was SATA because back then NVMe was still expensive and I wasn't sure it'll work), and I repurposed the HDD as the data drive (drive D). Now I suspect the HDD isn't working well anymore so I'm thinking of getting a SATA SSD to replace it. These days there's no reason anyone should still be booting off an HDD given how cheap SSDs are. In fact I recently got a Lexar NM610 Pro 1TB for $30!! (After coupon.) Crazy cheap even if it's QLC as I suspect. I think even this cheap $30 SSD should be fine for most people.

@@WootDini Hey some updates, actually bought that Lexar SSD. I really like the design and feel really good compared to my other SSD like Silicon Power A55, I had that since 2019 and still running great. Write & read speed is slightly greater than my SP SSD despite it's 5 years old but still rocking good.

Heya In this range I would look at Western Digital Blue as the possibility of it having DRAM is better (I am not sure 100%) but it depends on price. The best is generally Samsung QVO or EVO. But I would buy on best price honestly

Should of tested latency under sustained load, write speed under sustained load.
@WootDini
@WootDini Жыл бұрын
That's the issue with SSDs. There are too many tests that you can do. With this one not having a dram cache and being a SATA3, I don't see the point as it's only meant for entry level.

@@WootDini Yeah I know. But testing generic quick test numbers that others post on the amazon reviews doesn't add much engagement to your videos. It shouldn't be *Yeah, this SSD is low end but adequate.* It should be *Exactly how low end is this SSD and why?*

I am building my own test suite program for full testing. I have been told my reviews get way too technical that no one understands and I loose engagement owing to being too technical, so trying to apply the technicality to the level of product. Always willing to take tips from viewers as if I'm not answering the questions you want answered the vods loose purpose. Trying to figure a way to "dumb down' the more technical aspects. Will be a lot easier when I do content full time :)
